This product solves the "HDMI Handshake" reboot problem.
When I recently upgraded to a Panasonic plasma flat panel, I still wanted to hook up my Turtle Beach headphones via the audio output off of my xbox, while also being able to hook up video to my flat panel via HDMI cable.Unfortunately, I do not have an audio receiver with HDMI video pass through, so my first solution was to try and modify the standard Xbox RCA cable. I successfully did that and it did work -- kinda. A side effect to removing the gray plastic sheathing from the end of the cable so that it can fit alongside an HDMI cable is that if you are playing games, then switch TV inputs over and check up on sports scores, then flip inputs back to Xbox, the xbox will reboot itself after it discovers inputs have been changed.I tried further modifying my standard Xbox RCA cable, but wound up butchering it and rendering it completely useless. It seemed I was resigned to ponying up exorbitant amounts to MSFT to pay for their "official" Microsoft Xbox HDMI + RCA cable combo, but after scouring the interwebs and even calling Microsoft at 1-800-4MY-XBOX I have learned that that product is discontinued. (!!!)So left with little option left, I tried this third party adapter after having read reviews on other third party audio dongles and learning that they too caused the input switch reboot issue. This one, at least for me, does not.My setup includes:An older 2007 model Xbox 360 with HDMI output to my Panasonic TC-P50G20.This product pictured as the audio dongle hooking up to an RCA male-to-male cable to my Turtle Beach x31 headset.I recommend this as the choice of which cable to use for xbox audio output if you need to hook up a headset using RCA, but still want HDMI video glory.

It's a go!
I'd recently been in the market for an good HDMI cable for my Xbox360 / HDTV, as component cables are a bit dated now... and I also needed an optical adapter for my new surround headset. I saw them both in a cheap bundle, and decided to take a chance. I'm solidly satisfied with the purchase. The products arrived the next day, neatly packaged, and exactly as the picture shows them. The HDMI works like it should, and is of very sturdy materials. The optical adapter is quite light, and feels kind of cheap and plasticky, but nonetheless does what it should. I'd suggest this product (both) to anyone who needs or wants them. It's worth it!*NOTE*1. The component adapter that comes standard on Xbox360's are bigger than this optical adapter, obstructing the HDMI port right next to it, thus making use of an HDMI cable impossible with the old adapter. This adapter is much skinner, and slides in perfectly next to the HDMI.2. The old Xbox360 adapter sent audio (red / white cables) straight to the television. This adapter has no cords included. With this adapter, separate double-ended cables are needed for the audio. I thankfully found some that came with my new HDTV that I used until I switched over to an optical connection with my headset. You can find them very easily here on Amazon.com, or an electronics store for less than 10 USD or so.

Does EXACTLY what it is supposed to do
If you want to listen to your Xbox 360 with headphones (to get headphone surround sound or allow your neighbors and family to sleep very late and very early in the day) this is the way to go. You use the hdmi to hook up to your HDTV and the RCA jacks or optical out to output to a headphone adapter. This is also the only way (as I found out) to output to the Xitel SOUNDaround Surround Sound Processor without using component cables. With this setup you can use wireless headphones, but I am using a set of wired phones with a long extension cord hooked into the Xitel box (no batteries to worry about). Using HDMI is recommended over component cables because of RMI interference (in my case rolling bars).True, if you happen to have a cable with these audio adapters that doesn't fit the connectors (the official one is too large to fit) you could cut it open with a knife. But when both the adapter for analog audio AND the hdmi cable is less than $10.00....why bother? The only downside is that my 360 restarts when I switch from its hdmi input to a different one on my TV. Five stars.

Needed in order to pipe sound into non-HDMI receiver when using HDMI
I like to enjoy delicious high definition sound and video when watching movies and playing games when using my Xbox. Unfortunately my receiver does not have any kind of HDMI inputs or outputs. So I use this adapter to input optical sound into my receiver and HDMI video into my TV. It has worked out great so far. I have the optical going to the receiver and the RCA outputs going to headphones so I can switch back and forth at ease.CONWhen using this adapter if you are using HDMI for video and the RCA/Optical for audio you have to keep your TV on. Sometimes I may walk away from my Xbox for a bit. I don't like to keep my TV on when I do this but I want the Xbox to remain on. With this adapter I cannot do that. Every time you turn on the TV the Xbox will look for the audio/video connection and it will restart. There is nothing that can be done to fix this other then getting a receiver with HMDI input/output.

You get what you paid for...
I purchased this product in late May. The audio output cable works fine and is built solidly. The part that I was dissatisfied with was the HDMI cable. Of course for less than $8, I did not expect much. When I inspected the HDMI cable, the rubber sheath did not fully cover the wiring where the HDMI plugs and the cable met on both ends, and some of the wiring was exposed. I quickly remedied this problem by covering it up with electrical tape. Another small problem was that when I hooked up the HDMI cable, I had to wiggle it a bit after it was wired for the video to show on my T.V. It's not a big deal, and for less than $8, I can't expect too much. Afterwards both products work well, and it has been about two weeks now since I have used both products.
