Exceptional quality and easy to use!
First let me say that this is only a DIY project if you’re an above average DIY’er. There’s a lot to consider before drilling a 3 1/2” hole through your wall. Unless you’re extremely knowledgeable in electricity and how your walls are made you should probably hire someone with those skills to install for you.As for the unit and performance, I couldn’t possibly be more pleased that I chose the 18k MRCOOL for my 400 sf garage wood shop. I’m in Arkansas and Summer months are hot and humid. Until we drilled the hole through the wall I didn’trealize that my exterior garage walls were actually insulated. Had I known this up front I probably would’ve considered the 12k unit, which is why I mentioned knowing how your walls are made in my first paragraph. We’ve had some cold nights (32° last night) and this morning my garage was a very comfortable 70°. So far I’ve just used the “auto” setting which is pretty much “set it and forget it”. I’ve kept mine set on 70° and regardless of how hot or cold it is outside the auto setting will heat or cool (automatically switching between the two) as the outside temp fluctuates. I don’t know why traditional central heat and air units don’t have this feature, but they absolutely should. We keep our home a constant 71° year round but we have to manually switch the thermostat to AC or heat...not so with this little jewel. It does the switching for you. Just tell it your preferred temp and it’ll do the rest. And I’ll add that it does so whisper quietly...both the indoor and outdoor unit are super quiet. This is a 5 star product all the way. Buy with confidence.

DIY project is moderate skills to advanced skills, but worth it
this was my first time install this type of equipment in my home so I was a little nervous on how it would go. Now that it is done the project is not overly complicated and if your skill set is better than average you will have no problems installing this unit. My house is a 2 story unit with 9' ceilings and the air handler was on the second floor in my bed room that faces south and west. also you will need another persons help to hang the air handler, kinda tricky by your self when trying to feed wires, pipes and drains throiugh a hole that is 8" in the air and catch all the mounting hooks and clips with out stressing the copper piping.there a few things i will mention as you might not know they are needed and the ad doesn't really say.you will need a support base for the condenser if you are setting it on the ground, I bought a 24"x48" one off of amazon was about 100usd. if your going to wall mount the condenser make sure you account for the clearance from the wall with the depth of the condenser when selecting a bracket.you will need a manual electrical disconnect of some sort, check local codes, with in about 6 feet of the unit for servicing and repair work.if working in a live 220vac electrical panel scares you then by all mean hire this portion out. but for those willing to DIY you will need a 2 pole 20a breaker, conduit, either flexible or ridged, plus the appropriate connectors to attach to the main panel and the condenser unit. the holes in the condenser are for1/2" conduit . you will need a water tight 1/2" cable strain relief connection for the electrical part that goes to the air handler at the condenser12 awg wire is all that is needed for this and use stranded wire as it is easier to pull in conduit, plus use a lubricant the help wire slide through the conduit just used spray way glass cleaner as a lube since i only had a 25" run to the condenser from the main panelspray foam for sealing the hole on the wall because the clay sealant really is not enoughif your placement has you using all 25' of the line set with out coiling any extra at the condenser the you will need a second line set duct cover kit as the one that comes with the this kit only does about 12-13 feet.alex plus caulk to caulk and seal any opening to prevent water ingresswhen i was unboxing the unit the sleeve that goes through the was was broken. it was packaged in the box with the condenser and looks like something had shifted in the box and broke it in half, now mind you the shipping box was not damaged itself. this item probably should be packed with the air handler instead, but that is my .02c worth. i did send a quick message to mr. cool on their web site and got a prompt reply and a replacement part shipped out with any brain damagedall in all this was not a difficult install but do read all the instructions before you begin and watch a you tube video if you are not clear on any portion of the install.

So far, it’s amazing!
All I can say is I wish I would have installed this years ago! I hope this concept of DIY A/C and heat pump install catches on because this was not a complicated install at all. The hardest part for me personally was to run the electrical through a crawl space in my basement. I have some decent residential electrical knowledge so I had no issue other than the difficulties of running romex from opposite ends of my house. Still, you don’t want to mess up these connections, not to mention the need to run a dedicated circuit from your panel, so I’d recommend a professional electrician if you don’t feel comfortable. However once that is done, the actual install of this mini split is very straightforward. If you’re on the fence, just buy it! You won’t be disappointed. I can’t comment on the heat output just yet, but the A/C is second to none.

Customer Service is Nonexistent
We have installed 3 Mrcool units. The ones that work, work great. The third unit, that my husband installed 2 weeks ago is showing a P1 error code. After attempting every solution we could find online, he finally called Mrcool for help. They have returned NONE of his calls. We currently have an expensive, nonworking mini split in our living room.
