Think carefully and shop around.
I have very mixed feelings about these. On the one hand the set is lovely. Lots of bits to play with and create nice things. However, we have had gelarti stuff in the past and my 4 year old could use that independently with no problems. We bought this set for her for her 4th birthday and it's way too fidly. The lack of raised black guide lines makes it very hard to use. It's a design flaw that has been disappointing and frustrating for my daughter. I'm not even sure my 6 year will be able to do it unaided.
