Abu Garcia Superior Spinning Fishing Reel, for freshwater fishing, Predator Fishing, Pike, Perch, Zander, Trout

Nice reel, but a lot smaller than I expected .

This reel was an impulse buy and obtained at a very cheap price so on that basis it was very good value. I just tested it and managed to catch two 5lb plus inshore pollack and a heap of smaller fish. Essentially this is Abu's attempt to catch up with Shimano and Daiwa whose fixed spools are generally very good indeed. The Superior's name is a bit optimistic, though it is superior to the last two Abu fixed spools I owned - not difficult! It is a handsome reel and very smooth - however there is one thing I would change: the gear ratio. So many reels these days are just too fast - this is 6.2:1 which means it winds in lots of line quickly, but lacks power. It struggled to bring in a 2lb cod whilst using a 3oz lead for instance. I feel manufacturers are all overly influenced by US black bass fishing, which seemingly consists mainly of skimming tiny fish over the surface of the water. Other anglers catch fish that pull back, other anglers fish deeper water, other anglers use weights bigger than 28 grams - so why not make a model with 4.8:1 gearing too?

I brought this reel as I have started fishing and thought it was a reasonable price. The reel box has had a ding on the side either before or during transit.The reel does not spin freely and have to turn the handle with some force.Returning for a refund and heading to a shop in person.

A lightweight sadly would not use it for anything other than perch ,chub, etc and it lacks anti reverse!.

All of the info on the reel was in Japanese and a part broke on it after only 2 days of fishing.What broke was just the bit of plastic on the back of the reel fell off but still it shouldnt have had to repair it so soon even if it is just cosmetic.I honestly do not think this was a actual Abu Garcia reel.

Very smooth drag, balanced, smooth action...holds a lot of line...good for fresh and/or salt water thanks to the shielded bearings...the 4 bars are because every now and then, my line gets tangled underneath the spool...in spite of that, I still ordered the 1000S ULUpdate: Advise that you flip the bail by hand and don't allow any slack down by the reel...that stops all the tangled...now the reel is perfect!
