How does this work with rounded bulbs?

It depends how much of a dome shape you are talking about. If you contact us directly we can custom shape any of our LIGHTDIMS and WHITE DIMS products to fit your LED lights or covers. Unfortunately we do not offer this service via Amazon.

Can these be applied directly to the surface of the led bulb?

1st LightDims or WhiteDims products are only suitable for LED based lighting. Never put Our products on incandescent or halogen based lighting. Never put our products on anything that gets hotter than 205 degrees F or 96C. If the above condition have been met then yes. Below are some links and information to additional products that may also be suitable for your needs.
All our products work indoor our outdoor and are all weather. Although this is subjective and unique your your tastes I feel Medium strength is best for annoying displays on things like alarm systems or surround receivers, basically anything you need to read both in sun light and at night. Feel free to email us directly if you need a custom laser cut roll or shapes.

Ok I have a few more products you may like but I did not note them 1st because on cheap Chinese made, low CRI rating strip lights which are very common sometimes there is a color shift with our WhiteDims LightDims. But the White DIms are actually preferable for your needs in my opinion because they not only dim like the products above but they soften the lights which makes them extremely desirable. But as I said on LOW CRI rated cheap strip lights there can be an undesirable color shift if and only if you apply the WhiteDims directly on top of the LED strip lights LED. If a color shift occurs the only solution is to get some sort of gap between the LED strip light by about 1 or 3 mm then the problem goes away if there was a problem in the first place. Some customers have a plastic cover over the strip to begin with, if you have that there is no risk of a color shift. This version below are subtle warm and result in a warmer yellow tone. Only choose these if your LED light is very cool. Some customers swear these have changed their life for the better and others say they are a bit too yellow. The results are subjective and are contingent on your specific lights tone.

Are these covers fire rated?

LIGHTDIMS are only for CONSUMER LED based LIGHTING.  Never put LIGHTDIMS on old style incandescent or Halogen based lighting. If the light has a cover, it is generally better practice to put LIGHTDIMS on the inside or outside of the cover vs directly on the LED bulb/diode, both for safety and aesthetics. 
LIGHTDIMS are rated up to 205 degrees F or 96c. Beyond these temperatures the material starts to get soft. Anything can catch on fire if hot enough, but in our lab the results of extremely hi temperatures was liquefaction.
