Absolutely HONORED to be the first review.
WOW! BY FAR THE BEST ANIMATED MOVIE I'VE SEEN.I don't normally write reviews but this I couldn't WAIT to write a review on.I grew up on Mortal Kombat, played MK 2 on SNES and N64, watched the movies several times and have since followed MK.LISTEN TO ME MK — THIS NEEDS TO BE SERIES. 1 hour and 20 minutes were not good enough for this masterpiece. This movie was BRILLIANTLY done.10/10 — Storyline10/10 — Graphics10/10 — GoreEven through in a good tad of humor with Johny Cage and played him well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for MK fans, and even if you're just bored during this Quarantine. ;)

Great movie with a lot to offer, but also leaves a lot to be desired
As a lifelong MK fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Its crisp, deliciously bloody, gory animation perfectly captures the spirit of the games it represents. Its voice acting is top-notch. Its characters are, for the most part, incredibly entertaining. For characters who got their time in the spotlight, you could feel their energy coming off the screen. And I must say, this movie spoils you rotten with homages to the games and plenty of creative ways to deliver you the same over-the-top, messy, shock-inducing violence that Mortal Kombat has always been known and loved for. When this film gets into showing you just how incredibly brutal the world of Mortal Kombat is, it REALLY shows you. I can't stress enough how beautiful the animation was. I also can't stress enough how gorgeous the fight scenes were. These were the movie's best qualities by far. It was also very refreshing to witness the return of Patrick Seitz as Scorpion. Since MK11 came out, I'd personally found myself missing his voice coming out of Scorpion, so it did my ears good to hear him here. I can also say the same for Steve Blum as Sub-Zero, even if Sub-Zero only gets four or five lines in the entire movie. Regardless, Scorpion's Revenge excels in its depiction of fast-paced, pulse-pounding action. However, the film suffers from a lot of glaring flaws plot-wise. For a story that is loosely based on the events of Mortal Kombat 1, it does surprisingly little to keep itself structured. The main issue is that the movie's focus is supposed to be on Scorpion as he loses everything, is reborn in the Netherrealm with supernatural powers and a thirst for revenge, and is sent on a rampage that would only end with the death of his nemesis, Sub-Zero. Unfortunately, Scorpion's story is severely hampered by the fact that the movie also tries to tell a rushed, unnecessarily nuanced, very sloppy recreation of the story behind MK1.All the characters that appeared in MK1 are there, but they're hardly done much justice in terms of their reasons for being present. Liu Kang, Raiden, Sonya, Johnny Cage, Kano, Goro, and Shang Tsung all appear at various points, but there is so much happening, and so many other characters being thrown in the mix (Kitana, Jax, Reptile, Baraka, and Quan Chi also appear), and the movie tries to find a reason to make these extra characters relevant that it comes across as something of a jumbled mess of half-baked character development and flimsy reasons for the plot to be pushed forward. Some of the characters mentioned above only served a specific purpose, and then either disappeared completely, were killed off, or were used as a MacGuffin or Red Herring for the sake of the plot. The story totally falls apart in the final act, with certain characters engaging in very questionable actions with next to no explanation, and then the ending felt totally rushed as though the writers ran out of room to fit the boatload of disjointed plot details that... I suppose you're expected to believe will lead to some sort of sequel? I can only say that, if you're a fan of the games and you're expecting a totally faithful retelling of the first game, you're... not gonna find that much here. You may be disappointed to see the lack of focused direction in this movie's plot. I know I was once I finished watching. All in all, Scorpion's Revenge is a wonderful love note to MK fans all around, and there's not a doubt in the world that, even if you're not a fan of Mortal Kombat, but love graphic cartoon violence and action thrown at you at blistering speeds, this movie is certainly one I'd recommend checking out. It's difficult to give a full stamp of approval, however, when it's clear that, for a movie called "Scorpion's Revenge," there is surprisingly little "revenge" to speak of. To be completely honest, this movie would've done its title character MUCH more justice if they'd stuck to telling a story about Scorpion and cut out any relation to Mortal Kombat's main story. There's plenty to explore with the ninja specter, but this movie missed a lot of opportunities to do just that because it loses focus about halfway through. Regardless, I'd still say give it a watch and be appropriately mesmerized by the overall stunning job the creators did with this film.

Story is Aight but EVERYTHING ELSE IS TOUGH!!!
Lets be honest, Mortal Kombat has never had stellar storytelling but it was good enough to enjoy the games campaign, fights, and most of all BRUTALITY. You know, the thing everyone loves Mortal Kombat for. So if you are ok with a standard and predictable story line that kinda does retread old ground this movie won't hurt as bad as the people in it did. Like the brutality, blood, and gore are the best they've EVER been in MK. Believe me, no fight disappoints and they all got they're own charm depending on the characters that's fighting. I found myself screaming out loud and gasping for breath in hype during EVERY SINGLE ONE.So if standard MK storytelling and brutal gore isn't your thing, this aint for you. But if you are an MK fan, this is a must watch, can't wait for the next movie I hope they make.

Mortal Kombat fan satisfied! Definitely worth checking out!
This is probably the best story by far within the Mortal Kombat realm! I as a child loved the OG games, Mortal kombat 1-3, took a long break and came back for MK 10/11 and it has evolved for sure. However MK has a strong and passionate following and really deserved a solid film to represent the franchise. MK 1 was good story but left you wanting more action. MK2 gave you way more action but then lacked story. This however Scorpions Revenge, hit the head. I mean the story made sense, you actually understand why Scorpion is on his path, and it’s just straight up “MORTAL KOMBAT!!!” *Insert OG techno intro. But yes this film knows what it is, and it delivers. All characters were great, and fans will see signature moves from your favorite characters that will make you applaud and cheer out loud while alone in your room (don’t Judge me), and it was just super satisfying to watch. Even tho it was an animated film, it executed this MK movie beautifully. Super gorey all out Mortal Kombat.Story 3/5-Simple revenge story, few minor twists.Visuals 5/5 - loves the art style and direction. Reminds me of the original Batman Animated Series.Overall Execution 5/5- well put together and great direction. Keep in mind that I am MK fan, so there are several fan service events only the OG folks will notice. If you loved Mortal Kombat growing up. This is worth a watch for sure. If they did a live adaptation of this story on film and execute it well, it could be an instant classic.

Excellent animated retelling
As a long time Mortal Kombat fan this was a must have animated experience that fans both new and old can appreciate. It uses character designs from recent games and retells the classic original story in a fun and brutal way that stays true to the tone of the series. High hopes that more MK animated movies are in store for the future.

Fun Action and Gore Galore
This was an excellent--if a bit too adult--version of Mortal Kombat. The characters are believable and funny. The story is exactly what we would expect. The animation is awesome. There were times when the story veered away from Scorpion, but I accepted that since it was a MK film.My only complaints are that the violence is a bit over-the-top (think Kill Bill) even by video-game standards. One villain dies a little too early, and there's just a hint feminist preachiness.Still, these minor problems are vastly overpowered by the action, campy good humor and story. Highly recommended! Hope Jax appears in a sequel!
