Trick Mirror: Reflections on Self-Delusion

No Escape
*3.5 rounded to 4*There was a lot of good conversation in this collection of stories but I still feel deep down that there was still something missing. Conversations included Internet and the influencer age, reality TV, feminism and how that translates in society to being a bitch, scammer profitability, societal pressure to undermine sexual assault on college campuses, and romanticizing weddings and society still believes in the role women play in relationships. But a lot of this was just talk. I was hoping for some resources on change that we're seeing or how us as readers can join the cause, but I guess it just wasn't meant to go to that level. It was a crude reminder how a lot of this stuff has been happening for generations but we still have not "solved" any of the issues. I did really like that Jia mentions other books that relate to whatever topic she's discussing. I certainly made a list of more books to check out!

Almost a New Joan Didion
This author has numerous quality insights into cultural developments of post-2010s that Didion had aged out of. Particularly good are the chapters on the internet, reality tv, and, especially, "Seven Scams."

Happy!
So happy to have bought this book pre-owned - it is more sustainable and better for the environment! The book came in great condition - some scuffs on the cover but the pages themselves look barely touched

Great read!
Great read. Every essay was interesting with a thought provoking perspective. Jia is amazing with words. Highly suggest.

young tech writer has opinions and observations
The writer has interesting, original and clever insights into pop culture and society at large. The writing itself is adequate to the task but it won't stand the test of time beyond a year or so. A quick read. Not great literature but worth the 4-5 hours it takes to read.

Silly millennial author stuck in her own “Trick Mirror”; ramblings of a millennial...
The author does not stay on topic and often provides her own politically devisive ideals without having to defend them. This is a pro-Liberal styled book with a strong left lean without support beyond her own echo chamber. Hard to read after the first chapter.

Great first chapter....
Really enjoyed the first chapter but then the book fell apart for me. She has strong opinions and I was not looking for that as much as understanding more, mixed with a bit of opinion, across topics. When she got into her time in a reality show I wasn't sure if that chapter was written by the same person as the first. Sadly, I gave up on the book. Donated it away.

Ligero y entretenido
Entretenido, ligero y actual. Debo admitir que el capítulo sobre su participación en el reality no fue de mi agrado y me pareció un poco tedioso. El resto me gustó
