Gorgeous and heartbreaking and lovely
A seriously affecting (to me, anyway) YA novel about three high schoolers' messy and intertwined lives: biracial Mira who struggles with depression, gay or bisexual (identification in progress) Jeremy who's targeted for bullying because of his gay dads, and gay or homoromantic+bisexual (unclear) foster kid and drug user Sebby who met Mira while they were both in inpatient mental health treatment.I can't help but interpret their relationship as a shifting polyamorous triad with various levels of sexual and romantic attraction/behavior and passionate friendship between various pairs, in a very teenage way where no one's ever 100% sure what's going on except they can't stand to be apart. I actually really liked that ambiguity and lack of labels here, as it felt appropriate to the amount of chaos and self-discovery each character was dealing with. Not all of the relationship parts are healthy, either, which again, feels appropriate to the characters. It's the kind of book where you want to scoop up all the main characters in your arms, give them hot chocolate, and tell them everything is going to be okay... and then go yell at their various parents / foster parents who are messing up and MAKE them fix everything they can. So I don't know if Scelsa intended the ending to be ambiguous, but I found it to be so, yet I cannot help but interpret it in the most positive way possible, because that's what I need from this book. YMMV.

not what the synopsis promises
I believe that I would have enjoyed the book more if I was going into it with different expectations, I would have enjoyed the book more. The tag line made it seem like a bisexual love story, however there was none of that in the book. The few mentions of romantic relationships were not that fulfilling either, as they were all pretty toxic.I loved the diversity this book shows, and delves into a lot of hard topics, but none that I found that revolutionary. The characters to me never got to a point where they were likable, I didn’t feel like I knew enough about any of them. I love books that show different perspectives of each of the main character, but this one also changed in 1st, 2nd and 3rd person with each character. This made it a little choppy for me, not hard to follow but just a little annoying.I think this book had great potential, and possibility sold under a different synopsis could have been better, but for me it just didn’t work. I think there’s far greater YA novels out there that have similar concepts that work better. At the end of the day, I got it for less than $5, so I’m not super disappointed. I would usually read a book like this in one day, however I was putting it down out of boredom, so it took around 3 days for me to finish.

Loved this book
Loved this book! Regardless of your age, there is a message in here for you. Beyond the excellent writing and storytelling skills, the author addresses social issues such as mental health, drugs, homosexuality, our social services system, bullying and really makes you think. I walked away a little more cognizant and a little more tolerant of the society around me.

Big fan of FANS
I looooove this book! It's so gorgeously written, and heartbreaking in the best way. It reminds me of all the intensity of your first important friendships, how friendships can help put you back together when you've been broken, and the difficulty of finding that after you've been put back together, those friendships don't always fit you in the same way. I loved the device of having the story told from three different POVs, because I think it underscored the characters' feelings of wanting to reveal themselves completely to each other, to be known and understood completely, and the reality that they can't. I won't give away any spoilers, but the road trip, ceremony and thrifting scenes are some of my favorite scenes. All the feels! I have all of them!!!! Also, big fist pumps for queer and diverse characters. Some rumor got started that this book has bisexual characters, and I don't want anyone to be disappointed if that's what they are looking for, so I want to tell you that you won't find bisexual characters in this story. What you will find is a big pile of exquisitely written complex gorgeousness.

I am a Big Fan of this Book!
This is a very well written and compelling book. I became deeply involved in the characters' feelings of alienation and their struggles to feel connected to each other as well as to the world around them. I recommend it highly.

Impossibly good
This book is wonderful. Smart, funny, sweet and thought provoking. Kate Scelsa creates an engrossing, tangible world and populates it with interesting, thoughtful, and dynamic characters to tell a wonderful story. This should be made into a movie. I couldn't possibly recommend this book more! Read it!

Dont waste your money, truly boring book.
I had actually written a long review on how unhappy I was with this book but then my Amazon crashed and I lost it all. All I will say is I hated it, don't waste your money, very underwhelming ending, and was boring from start to finish. - I don't usually write bad reviews as I find it mean in doing so, but I just had to with this book, it let me down big time.

full of heart and one of the best YA voices I've read in years
This book is gorgeous, full of heart and one of the best YA voices I've read in years. I fell in love with Mira, Sebby and Jeremy. They're all struggling, all clinging to their friendships, all lost at that terrifying point in life where you're supposed to know where you're going but you haven't got a clue. Scelsa does such a beautiful job of creating humane characters with big hearts and confounding fears. Will push this book on everyone I meet.
