Well-organized and recommended for early study of Tagalog
This is a nice book for a rather low price. It can be used by students or other individuals who are beginning to learn Tagalog. The book is centered around sentences that are common to basic conversations in Tagalog, and it goes in depth in regard to grammar and pronunciation and includes a CD with native-speaker pronunciations of words and sentences in the book. Another useful quality of the book is that it breaks down the sentences word-by-word to show how they are constructed, which is also interesting in making comparison to how sentence construction differs in some ways from common English. There also are some comic illustrations with accompanying conversations to help keep the reader interested, and there are exercises at the end of each chapter for students to complete if the book is being used in that manner. The book material/binding is also of good quality.

Good book for the price
Very good. A good way to start learning Tagalog. With NO sound alikes in this language, it is pretty rough. Jumping into it is as daunting in some ways as Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. Japanese by a stretch is easier to pronounce, but certainly not reading and translating. I am not sure what Tagalog looks like, but doubt there is anything to hang your hat on.

Memories of old!
As with any new language, it takes some time to really get into it. However, this book makes it a lot easier to speak some Tagalog to people you meet. Being caucasian, born and raised in the US, learning some phrases is not so easy, but with time and repeating, it will become more fulfilling. To live in the Philippines, it would make it more easy to learn the language. I try to speak Tagalog with every Filipino I meet. Some are enthusiastic, some are not, but it is fun. Ako si Roger. Sige po.

Great book BUT I wouldn't recommend buying
If you are serious about learning tagalog. Joi has a tagalog for beginners book for around 14$ I would recommend which has triple the information onto this one, I will complete this one and probably move onto the beginner one. Great job girls writing this book!

Good introduction to Tagalog, but sloppy editing.
I have been studying this book quite thoroughly in order to learn Tagalog. While I have appreciated the organization of the book and all that it offers, I have come across a few incidents of sloppy editing where the English translation is incomplete or incorrect, and I have had to look to other sources to get the correct answer. For example, in chapter 10, dialogue A, the English translation to "Kuwarenta'y dos pesos at singkuwenta sentimos" leaves out the "50 cents" part. In Chapter 18 where the north, south, east and west words are given, they wrote the English word "south" for the Tagalog word "kanluran", which really means "west". I caught that because the book had "south" indicated for both "timog" and "kanluran", so I looked it up on another source. These and other errors should have been caught by more thorough editing. As has been written in another review, I also wish there had been a way to check ourselves with the practice sentences.

Good starter book to learn Tagalog!
Pretty easy to read along and understand. The only thing it should have more of is more explanation on how to pronounce.

Great for beginners
I am learning Tagalog for the first time and this book was recommended to me by my language teacher. I love that it is easy for anyone to understand and the illustrations help tremendously. My grandma (who is a native Tagalog speaker) also favors this book. Highly recommended.

Very good for learning Tagalog
I first started with a different but more expensive book (Elementary Tagalog). However I switched to this one after a while, because it explains many things in my opinion much better. It seems to be more simple and as the title says is oriented towards easy learning, however the title does not give sufficient credit to this book, in my opinion. It is much better structured than the more expensive and maybe more extensive (but flawed) Elementary Tagalog. Best example for that is the use of kayo in formal language. In Elementary Tagalog it is used pretty much from the beginning in some texts. However I was always wondering about this usage and there was no explanation. In Easy Tagalog it is used as well, however here they explain the usage. That is just one of several things that made it difficult for me to fully feel comfortable with the Elementary Tagalog and why I prefered this book here.Recommendable for learning Tagalog and in my opinion the best choice if you speak English.

Enjoyable and in depth learning
I already have broad knowledge of Tagalog, but fractured. This book is really helping to fill in and broaden my knowledge. This book is good for complete beginners and even advanced learners will gain something from it. The added bonus of cultural tips and layout make easy reading and learning. As stated elsewhere, the cd is way too fast, and will lrave you at the starting blockslst its rapidily advanced to stage 3. Thos is the only negative about this, but the book alone is great. If you think this book will have a few basic holiday phrases, that you will master a month before you go to the Philippines, you will be very much mistaken. It is in fact very comprehensive, and in depth, you will learn lots, therefore you need to allow a few months to absorb and master whats being taught.
