Andrew Geller
A great book to have for architects and/or lovers of mid-century architecture. Andrew Geller is an American treasure. His nephew Jake Gorst takes us on a journey with those wonderful photographs of all the houses his Grandfather created and eventually built. The ideas for the residences were way ahead of their time and transport you back to an amazing era. This book is such a delight to read and captures an intimate look at Mr, Geller's life and career as a pioneer in alternative residential design during the inventive and creative post war years in America. Residential design transforms underneath the direction of Andrew Geller, whether for a primary home or 2nd residence. This book transported me back to a time of freedom where dreaming and execution are realized on those sandy shores. With 50 years of experience this book shares the story of a unique individual who expressed himself through his paintings. Some of my favorite things are the abstract watercolor paintings by Andrew Geller, so intimate and tactile. A piece of Americana for collectors or fans of Mid-Century Art & Architecture.

From Manhattan to Montauk via Splitnik and the WTC
This beautifully produced biography is dedicated to the life and work of one of the 20th century's most original architects, Andrew Geller. Geller had a decades long career as an artist, designer at the Manhattan firm of Raymond Loewy and an architect whose iconic beach houses quintessentially capture the carefree spirit of Long Island summers in the fifties and sixties. In this tribute to his grandfather, Jake Gorst proudly documents Andrew Geller's work, letting the beauty and whimsey shine through with personal stories and anecdotes supported by illustrations, photographs and blueprints of his designs and reproductions of Geller's paintings and drawings. It is academically rigorous and a coffee table art book of the highest calibre whilst remaining an intimate portrait of a man whose work impacted the design world both in the US and internationally. This is an essential book for lovers of architecture and design, a delight for anyone who appreciates the joie de vivre that Andrew Geller's architecture embodies.

Not monograph material
This was bought as an add-on to another order. It is a monograph published by the architect's grandson. The projects shown are a hodgepodge of a couple interesting projects, mixed with pedestrian and derivative ones. The work is spotty and without any real consistent vision or distinction.

Jake Gorst shares with us a rare and rich glimpse into a designer's mind.He treats the reader to the workings of Andrew Geller's design sense and flair, and the playful energy behind it.When you look at how Andrew Geller designed, you get this sense thatGeller did'nt so much think outside the box. He seemed to flip the box to our surprise and delight..A reference well worth treasuring.

Beautiful Time Capsule
I bought this book for the beach-house photographs - but was surprised to be totally taken with the story of Andrew Geller's life and the creative people that he worked and designed for.

A superb, loving portrait of a brilliant artist
Jake Gorst's exquisite book, "Andrew Geller: Deconstructed: Artist and Architect" is one of the most authoritative and beautiful books of its kind to grace the shelves this year. More than a biography or a summary of Geller's career, "Deconstructed" offers a rare (and fascinating) glimpse into the life and backstories that frame the architect's whimsical, wondrous creations. Geller's prowess as a cutting-edge designer - and superb fine artist - is lovingly explored, and richly illustrated by hundreds of photographs that enhance the text. As an unabashed Andrew Geller fan (and owner of several original Geller watercolors), I'm amazed at how thoughtfully and uniquely he approached each and every project; his remarkable custom-designed homes are among New York's most unusual (and talked about) retreats and are FINALLY being recognized as the masterpieces they are. Kudos to Jake Gorst (Andrew Geller's grandson) for taking the time to research and present an extraordinarily balanced and readable portrait of 'The Man and his Art.' Gorst's understanding and appreciation for fine architecture has long been evident in the documentary films he directs and produces. He has now shown another dimension to his talent, and I look forward to more books on the men and women who shaped the very look of our cities via his future studies on architects and their work. In short, 'Deconstructed' is beautifully written, gorgeously presented, and will always occupy a special place in my library and home.

genialer Architekt , tolles Buch !
