Brilliantly different perspectives
I read a lot but hadn’t heard of Manto until I joined a reading group. This is a poignant first hand perspective of the effects of world politics on ordinary people and should be on the curriculum in secondary schools.

I am studying this author in my Literature class. Some of the stories are very shocking but they depict the violence and hatred during the Partition of India in 1947.

It is a bone chilling book
It really takes the read down a path where we see the ugliest side of partition, of how once people who lived happily together turned against each other. The stories will haunt you if you really get into it.

Breathtaking
Sadat Hasan Manto needs no introduction, the translator has done a great job in retaining the essence of every character in the book.If one is intrigued by the intricacies associated with day-to-day lives of people in both parts of the country at the time of Partition, this is a must read. Most of these simple yet complex stories will make you pause for a second and look back (Might as well leave you devastated in some cases). I personally felt chills running down my spine multiple times.
