Awesome bag, Perfect for a little Adventurer/Warrior's Backpack, or general purpose day bag.
A very cool war bag, perfect for a little warrior to take into battle (school). Made from a super durable canvas with leather straps with clasps holding the main flap closed. It also seems to be weather treated (oiled) as water is repelled off it. Very well made, it feels like it will last forever. There is one main compartment, with a second smaller compartment in front of that. The second has it's own flap with snaps. There was also a small canvas bag included that is the perfect size for putting a small lunch into. The back of the pack is lightly padded with what feels like down, aside from that, no other padding is present. The shoulder straps are a thick, tough layered canvas, that are length adjustable. There are loop type straps on the bottom, no idea what they could be used for though. This is a very small bag, making it perfect for use as a daypack for hiking or adventuring. It's size also makes it perfect for use as a child's backpack. Just enough room for a notebook, lunch, school supplies as well a small toy. It also looks great on children as it isn't overly large making them look like turtles with an oversized shell, like most backpacks tend to do.This is a military surplus bag, as such it is used. I knew this upon purchasing, some other reviewers seem offended by the stains/smell of it. Mine came with a few small rust (blood?) stains, but no smell whatsoever. Your results may vary.At this price point it would be worth it just to have one for random usage, this is an awesome deal in general.-Upgrayedd

great DAY bag
if your a minimalist and think to yourself: "ya, its small but I can make it work".... prepare to become even more a minimalist! I purchased it to purpose it for haversack duties. and it excels at that- I ditched one of the shoulder straps putting it into haversack/messenger bag "mode" I've a home brew of bees wax, linseed oil and turpentine that I added to make it impervious to water and its good to go. some folks complained of a smell, worn straps or this and that- what I received appeared to be an old/new never issued ruck. It did have a tinge of been stored for quite some time but NOT over bearing in the least as some had stated. the straps on the bottom will accommodate a twin size wool blanket if rolled tightly and I stepped that up by taking some cord and jam knotting my roll where the rucks straps will attach too. this will allow the straps to CATCH... not cinch and that's been adequate for me. the inside pocket accommodates my zebra 14cm lunch box however that swallows most of the internal space. its forgiving should you overstuff the main compartment however you'll be sacrificing its external pocket which isn't much use other than a place for a pair of gloves and stuff you want handy the Velcro closures IMO are useless. if the intended bottle bag is used it will accommodate a 32oz or larger typical Nalgene type container as long as its height doesn't exceed say 9 1/2" tall. all in all its a good piece of kit just as long as you keep in mind a minimalist mentality.

OK Rucksack
This Serbian rucksack was pretty much as expected, based on other reviews. It is small for a backpack, if you plan to carry much, but it has a separate pocket under the flap and a couple of internal pouches. Not perfect, but the right size to carry on my bike rack, and at a good price. I like the bag but here are the reasons for the "3" rating: the rucksack was listed as used but in "new" condition. It does appear unused, however: the buckles and D rings all have some rust and several rust stains are on the bag; the leather straps were broken off at about half length; and as others mentioned the bag has a musty odor. My fixes: wipe all metal with WD-40, trimmed the broken ends of the straps, and hung the bag in the sun (still a bit musty). I think if I was going to carry this on my back and keep it in the house or tent these issues would be more critical. Anyway, the bag meets my needs and who else can say they have something "Made In Serbia". Enjoy!

Nice
If you are interested in vintage rucksacks then I recommend this . It will have some wear on it, especially the leather straps but they still work. It does have that old canvas musty odor though. I washed mine let it air dry, sprayed a very diluted amout of bleach water and then pure vinegar on it. Once I did that let it hang outside for a whole day and the smell was gone.Overall cool pack if you like old stuff

Smell is a deal-breaker
Item arrived in decent condition, no tears or rips or anything but the smell was absolutely HORRIBLE. It smelled like a dank, musty, moldy basement and I couldn't even stand to be in the same room with it. I washed it in the washing machine and that didn't help. I then heavily sprayed the thing with Fabreze and left it outside for the rest of the day to air dry. That helped a little but I can still smell the musty odor. I think I'm going to have to literally soak this in Fabreze or something to get the smell out. Ugh!

more like W11" x H8" not 12x12 in the product description
Very small, more like W11" x H8" not 12x12 in the product description. The leather strap is black not brown as shown in the product photo.Interesting design. Can be easily converted into a shoulder bag from a backpack.I also purchased the E German Rucksack. Time will tell which one is better.
