Deceptive *contains spoiler*
This is shows as Wes Craven's "New" Nightmare, but it is 26 years old which is far from new. In fact, in most areas that would be considered almost an antique. That being said, I enjoyed this movie. I particularly enjoyed how Freddy is now in the real world. I was looking forward to Freddy eating the young boy up, but sadly his mother intervened. By now, you are probably thinking to yourself that I must be some kind of imbecile. In response, I direct you to your dictionary of choice to look up the word "sarcasm".

Some reboots are better than others...
I guess I can summarize this without being too verbose. It's like any other long-running series--if the material gets tired or too comedic & strays from the horror and starts to lampoon itself, maybe a swift kick in the reboot is necessary. This goes back to Bela "Dracula" Lugosi & just horror in general. If Part 6 was too comedic, this makes up for it. A darker Freddie, not too much light comedy & just great horror without dissecting it too much. Special mention for Heather looking great & the actress who plays Julie....

new nightmare fanatic
the movie was very entertaining. i had already seen it when i was i little girl and just had to see it again. i felt like it was my very first time seeing it. everything was on point, the music, the mask, the makeup. this is the best freddy kruger movie that ive seen thus far. my favorite part was when he came out of dylans bed. i think it was mostly the music that made that part the most entertaining to me. i know this movie was made so long ago and there probably wont be a nightmare on elm street 8 but if the creator decides to make another one, ill be first in line to buy my ticket.

Welcome To A New Nightmare...
A great film. It's very meta and a great addition to the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise. It's scarier, not so campy like the previous ones. Freddy's redesigned to look scarier and creepier.

Very good
West Craven nailed it with this one. A Nightmare on Elm Street has its ups and downs. This movie makes the other sequels look silly.

Great "Sequel" (For Lack of a Better Term)
Apart from "Freddy v. Jason" this is the only good sequel to the Freddy Krueger movies, although I use the term "sequel" lightly because it's so different from the other Freddy movies. Instead of a traditional sequel, the actors play themselves as the "real" Freddy Krueger, a dream demon come to life, hunts them in their dreams. I won't spoil the rest, but unlike the other sequels, this one is good and has some really scary moments. Enjoy!

Horror to Scare Horror Writers
I honestly think the meta-philosophy of the story is very interesting. A horror story to scare horror writers in my opinion, and a good closing to the proper series of "Nightmares"

Einfach Genial! *****
Einfach ein super Finale für diese grandiose Film-Reihe! Eigentlich schon ein bisschen Schade, dass sie damit vorbei war, aber besser ist es, denn das Remake kommt da bei weitem nicht ran!

One, two, Craven's coming for you...
Wes Craven's New Nightmare is a metaphysical thriller which beat the director's Scream films to the punch by two years. Heather Langenkamp, star of the original Nightmare, plays herself as a mother to Dylan (Miko Hughes, as one of those solemn movie children who have portentous visions; think Sixth Sense or Poltergeist) and wife of Chase Porter (David Newsom) a make up artist. She's received threatening calls from a stalker (this was inspired by true events; Langenkamp really was stalked by a crazed fan), and has had nightmares about Freddy Kreuger.Writer/director Wes Craven and Robert Englund, who plays Freddy in the Nightmare series, also star as themselves. This is a smart, thrilling tale which, like Craven's original film, bends reality so that you don't know what's a dream and what isn't. The way Heather's life mixes with her character Nancy's is slow and subtle; Craven takes us on a journey through the macabre which goes beyond a simple good versus evil tale, except in the rather typical climax. The film is playful and holds its cards close. Moving outside the original Nightmare and making a fiction about its actors was a masterstroke; the film toys with our expectations. We don't know where Craven is going with this story, but we're willing to follow him. I'm a fan of the Scream films, but for sheer metaphysical cleverness New Nightmare trumps it. Scream was a satire of slasher films which was as much a spoof as a horror. New Nightmare is pure macabre, dealing with the supernatural in a way that makes us question and ponder it. Who exactly is the antagonist here? The film is very vague about that. Craven and Langenkamp have a fascinating dialogue where they explain how the series has created or given form to an evil force which manifests itself as Freddy. And this Freddy may not be confined just to the dreamer's subconscious. If you're expecting an average slasher with not too much plot and a lot of gore Nightmare will disappoint you. It has some amazing visuals and a couple of bloody kills, one of which echoes the original film, but it's not drenched in viscera and neither is it as grimy or nasty as Craven's early work. This is a polished, sophisticated thriller, with strong performances and a plot that's compelling from start to finish.
