The Vic firth has a little more bounce I think so it depends on what you want. I love both **Q: Does it have a rim** A: No sure what you mean by rim... the pad part of the drumming pad is bulged out just like any standard drumming pad. **Q: What kind of a stand do I need? Can you lead me in the right direction of what type I need.** A: A snare stand will work. You don't actually need any sort of stand. It can be placed on anything. If you like to sit and play, make sure you get a stand that will allow you to lower it low enough so you can sit and play comfortably. Each impact into the rubber is just loud enough to be audible yet will not disturb others close to you. I live in a house with 3 others and I use this pad 1-5 hours a day and I get no complaints. I have used this pad for about 3 months now on a consistent basis and have seen no damage to the rubber.
