Upside-down pages!! Great cookbook, terrible Amazon quality
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. You should buy this cookbook, but apparently not from Amazon. I can’t believe this copy even made it out of the warehouse! First of all, every page is bound in the book *upside-down*! The top edges are raw and show some of the printer script and Chinese characters that are usually cut off from the margins— see the video attached to see what I mean.I actually already own a copy of this book & love it— the fig & walnut bread is especially delicious!— so I bought another for my best friend’s Christmas present. Obviously, I won’t be keeping this copy— will return & re-purchase from Barnes & Noble, where I got my own copy. I understand that the Amazon packers are overworked and rushing during the holiday season, but this copy clearly made it a long distance & passed through a lot of hands in order to make it to me without a quality check.

Love, love, love the concept
The idea of a well written tight list of go-to dessert recipes excited me and this cookbook pretty well hits the mark. It is written in clear casual English as each recipe includes a very short intro/history. This is such a pleasant change from many a blogger who gives NaNa's life story or a grocery cart full of superlatives with every recipe. I also love that there is a picture with every recipe (It should be a law!) The only reason I did not give this book five stars is that, for me, there were too many recipes that my family would not enjoy and or that required ingredients that I would not use beyond that recipe. For example, the brownie recipe called for cognac. I don't want to buy a bottle to make brownies. Yes, I am sure I can google a substitute for cognac, but simple substitutes are not always available for more crucial ingredients in other recipes. My advice is to peruse the table of contents and if the recipes excited your interest, as most did mine, then dig in.

Good god I love this book
Good god I love this book. Everything about it! The size (on the smaller size, which is rare but it makes it easier to move around the kitchen), the organization of the recipes, the photography, the tips, ugh! It's just so great. I have made so many recipes out of this book and every single one is a winner. The molasses oat rolls are now my go-to for get-togethers and family functions, and the cold oven pound cake is a HIT at office parties. Yes, you can find these recipes on food52.com, but it's such a beautiful and well-written book, why wouldn't you want to support them? What I really liked is the recipes sound so fun and ambitious but are super easy and fun to play around with. Even recipes that I would kind of give a side eye to still sound at the very least interesting and, considering the source, are probably very tasty. This would make an excellent gift!

Excellent recipes, poor quality cookbook
I have all the Food52 cookbooks, I just ordered this baking book and the Mighty Salads. I was shocked at the low quality of the books themselves. The pages do not have a coating, so any spills ruin the recipe. Love the recipes, but not worth buying the cookbook if you 'enjoy' sitting down with a cup of coffee to browse the recipes or add to a cookbook collection, try to find it elsewhere for a better quality book.

Good book, selected number of recipes, easy to follow instructions
It's a good book, what you've come to expect from Food52, with interesting new recipes, or classic ones with new twists. All in all, I do like the book and have already tried a few entries.I find that the structure of this book is much more intuitive and easier to navigate than other offerings from Food52, probably because of the subject (baking vs general cooking recipes) so you will find sections for Breakfast ideas, Cookies, Cakes, Custards. It's "only" 60 recipes but you can see that it is a very well curated selection. I prefer this over other books with hundreds of recipes that are hard to follow. As for the recipes themselves, I find that the preview for each one is interesting and makes for a good read and the instructions are to the point and lead you very well to a successful result.Yes, it's a good book.

A lot of these recipes I wouldn't normally even think of doing.Even though I read through them, I feel intimidated to try them!I will give them a go because it's fun to push the boundaries of one's learning!
