Great add-in card to enable use of old MiniDV Tape Camera
Many years ago I purchased a Sony Handycam DCR-HC90. At the time I had a computer that already had a Firewire port and everything worked properly. About a month ago I discovered I had several tapes that I had not imported to my computer, but I had already disposed of the old computer and no longer had a Firewire port available. After reading quite a few reviews I decided on this card. It was easy to install in a Windows 7 computer from a few years ago and I was quickly able to import a tape. However, I only installed it in that computer as a test. I really wanted to install this card in my Windows 10 computer as a more permanent solution. Again, the card was an easy install, but Windows 10 lacked any of the features of Windows 7 so I was unable to import the tapes. I downloaded Sony's PlayMemories Home software because their support page said it would work to import my tapes via i.Link, but this was not the case. My computer recognized the card and the camera even showed up in my devices, but the software would not communicate with the camera. I opened 3 support cases with Sony and all three were closed with either vague or incorrect information, even though their site said my camera was supported with this software. With the last case I was told the latest software no longer supported i.Link and there were no other options because none of their older software was still available. I knew I had version 6 of their software installed, so I went searching for an older version. Sure enough I found version 5.5.01 (32-bit) on Sony's website so I uninstalled version 6 and installed the older version. I launched the program and connected my camera to see what would happen. I was prompted to download and install the tape import plugin and after that I was able to import all of my tapes without any issues. I have not used Sony's software to create any home movies from the imports yet, so I cannot report if that is going to work or not, but at least I got the tapes imported.Note: According to Sony the version 5.5.01 (32-bit) will only be available for download through the end of March 2020. I recommend you go ahead and get it if you think you will need it.

G5 Mac refuses to boot up after I installed this
PCI-X Firewire cards are not so common, and I needed one to run an experiment, so this looked good. When I installed it, my G5 Power Mac simply refused to start up. As soon as I removed the card, I was able to start up. Tried it again, same thing. No permanent damage seems to have been done, but it's mystifying.

2 of the 6 were bad.
One of them was dead, and another one kept causing errors in Windows 10. The other 4 seem to work fine.

perfect! finally!
So I have been trying to download my children's videos from our old Cannon mini cam, and it has been driving me nuts. No matter what cable I order, I could never get the computer to read it. The real issue is that you need a card installed in your computer to get a firewire to be read by your computer. You can get a firewire to USB.....BUT it will not work. This was a GREAT price. I popped it in (so easy) and it immediately started to download! I have an old desktop still running Vista, and it is perfect. Finally!!!!!

Plug and play on Windows 10
The PCI version is half the price of its PCIe version. My workstation happens to have one legacy PCI slot so it's an easy to choose the PCI version.Plug and play on Windows 10.Now all my videos on MiniDV tapes have been imported/captured to my PC with the help of this card.

Inexpensive and works great
Installed in old XP box with no issues and no drivers needed. Came with a cable that works just fine. Some 70 mindv tapes later, memories are permanently stored and all worked like a charm!
