Skydrop was designed for smart, responsible, environmentally-conscious homeowners and professionals — like you — who are passionate about a gorgeous lawn that will make all the neighbors green with envy… but not as green as your lawn. Using adaptive algorithms to generate custom and dynamic watering schedules from your weather data, Skydrop automatically determines the optimal watering schedule for each one of your lawn’s zones. Skydrop adjusts watering cycles, duration and frequency to keep your yard healthy in any weather condition. It does all the work for you! Skydrop maximizes water conservation while maintaining beautiful landscapes. This sleek, compact device also calculates the moisture in your soil and knows how much water a landscape is losing, and when. Set each zone according to soil type, plant type, sprinkler type, slope and shape. This allows you to water deeply and infrequently while using less water to maintain healthy root growth — the key to a thicker, greener lawn. Skydrop does it all. Automatically. So you don’t have to. Welcome to a more intelligent way of watering.

Horrible quality, little to no support, and doesn't do what it advertises
Please, please save yourself the trouble and frustration and DO NOT buy this product.1) If your router is greater than 20 feet away, SkyDrop may not connect to the cloud service even though it connects to your wifi network and you have a 75% reception signal on the unit itself. SkyDrop support told me that. (INFERIOR PRODUCT/COMPONENTS)2) Make sure there are no special characters in your Wifi Network name or Wifi Network Password (really?!). SkyDrop support also told me that. It's been over a year and they still tell me that it will cause problems. Don't worry about those hackers, they aren't real and you don't really need password security for your network. Just use "password"! Navigation in the interface is brutally slow and freezes at times. (INFERIOR SOFTWARE)3) Smart Watering (when it was actually connected to the cloud) did not really work. Watered on days when it rained and cost me more money on the water bill than when we had a schedule setup. (DID NOT LIVE UP TO CLAIMS).I would seriously consider another product out on the market unless you ENJOY buying products that do not work, have little to no support, and love giving away your hard earned dollars. Buy hey, it looks cool! That's all that matters right?

SkyDrop Paid for Itself in the First Month
I had been looking at various sprinkler control units for about 6 months before buying this one. After seeing that SkyDrop had significantly improved its firmware to excellent reviews, I decided it was the best bet of the several now on the market..In the first month it has paid for itself almost twice over. The setup was simple, the iOS app works great, and I've found the accuracy of the wether data to be excellent. One of the keys to a system like this is to setup your zones properly ad telling it about the plants and environment. The mobile app is the easiest place to do this, after a general setup on the unit itself. With the app, you select the type of plants (i.e. grass, shrubs, trees, etc.), the type of sprinklers, type of soil, and the shade, and the slope of the ground. If you do this correctly, you'll be very happy with the results. Also, be sure to test it thoroughly. After reading a number of reviews, I would advise readers to disregard many of the older reviews as they are no longer relevant. SkyDrop has addressed a number of minor issues with recent software/firmware updates that other vendors seem to continue to struggle with (in my opinion). Since the system operates on weather data, which is not always accurate (as we all know), you may want to occasionally manually turn the system on from time to time. I have never needed to do this, even living in the south where weather data is most always spotty at best. With the amount of money you save on water, it won't hurt to run an extra cycle now and then if you feel the need.It only took me about 20 minutes to install, and after testing it thoroughly to ensure everything was working, found it to be really reliable and almost flawless in operation.

bait and switch
I bought the Skydrop for the remote capabilities, I need to be able to water my property when I'm not there and conditions change. I purchased it in 2015, recently (2019) they took away the remote capability unless you pay a monthly fee. This is such crap, they sell a whole lot of units under the guise of free remote capabilities and the when everyone starts using it that way they take it away unless you pay. My lights, pool control, speakers, cameras etc. all have remote capabilities and they don't charge for that service Skydrop is a ripoff!

Very nice smart controller ... some improvements are required
I installed the Skydrop in less than an hour including removing the old sprinkler controller, wiring up the Skydrop and configuring it using the mobile app. It took another hour or so playing with it to really understand the very feature rich app but for a gadget guy that counts as fun. There is one problem with Skydrop relating to ZIP codes. We live in 94022 but Skydrop believes this is Cupertino, CA which it isn't. I emailed Skydrop and got an almost immediate answer. Apparently Skydrop gets its weather info from Weather Underground and is passing incorrect ZIP code data to Skydrop. The problem is "being addressed". My temporary fix was to use the ZIP code next door and that seems to work okay. The Skydrop unit itself is nice to look at. In fact its really cool. However, It doesn't feel rock solid, the control wheel feels delicate and the plastic is a bit cheap. But then for around $280 you're not going to get Bang & Olufsen quality!I do not know yet how much water we will save as a result of installing Skydrop but the next two water bills will provide that information.Overall, I think Skydrop have work to do to get this right but the concept is brilliant. Skydrop customer support is very good. I am pleased with the purchase, so far.

Only works as a manual controller
This product does not perform as stated. It is *supposed* to pull its weather data from the Weather Undergroud website. Unfortunately it does not every register precipitation. It wil predict future precipitation based on the weather report and provide an adjusted watering schedule, but it never sees the actual rain despite the weather service reporting correct data. This causes the sprinklers to run solely on programmed start and run times, making this a very expensive manual sprinkler system. Numerous calls to technical support have had my sprinklers shifted from 1 weather reporting station to another, all with the same result. Also, before buying search weather underground to see where your nearest weather reporting station is. If you live somewhere rather remote, it may be pulling data far from your home.
