Product description Genre: Television: SeriesRating: NRRelease Date: 2-SEP-2008Media Type: DVD .com The first thing you'll notice about the third season of Ghost Whisperer: More special effects! In the opening episode, a street collapses into a black, yawning crevasse. Eternally dewy Jennifer Love Hewitt stars as Melinda Gordon, who speaks to the dead with a firm glint in her eye and an abundance of cleavage (though the costume department is a tad more discreet this time around). With the assistance of her hunky husband (David Conrad), her skeptical best friend (Camryn Manheim, The Practice), and a wisecracking professor of the occult (Jay Mohr, Saturday Night Live), Melinda helps ghosts cross over to the other side. But woven through the entire third season is Melinda's investigation into her own family secrets (featuring Martin Donovan, The Opposite of Sex, as Melinda's mysterious father), culminating in a high-stakes season finale that's much more satisfying that season two's fairly forced conclusion. Mind you, this season is unlikely to convert viewers who prefer their ghost stories without warmhearted resolutions (almost every ghost just needs to tell someone how much he/she love him/her), but there are some clever twists and setups: A dead photographer creates pictures from the afterlife; a mother actively cultivates being haunted by her dead son because she's afraid he's too young to cross over on his own. Several episodes reveal how the town of Grandview is built on the ruins of an older city, which is--surprise!--full of unhappy ghosts. This gesture towards cultivating a mythology smacks a bit of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or The X-Files, but who doesn't like a haunted underworld? The more the show leans towards spookiness and sprinkles the earnestness on lightly, the stronger it is. Fans will be pleased with the abundance of extras, which include commentaries, webisodes, making-of documentaries, backstory about Melinda, and an entertainingly snarky interview with Mohr. --Bret Fetzer

Not a secret - Ghost Whisperer was filled with life
I was so disappointed when I learned that Jennifer Love Hewitt's show, Ghost Whisperer, had succumbed to the ratings war, and would be cancelled after 4 seasons. It was a shame, especially since the show had finally gathered a consistent cast that exuded sincere chemistry on screen. Season 3 was great in that it featured the talents of Jay Mohr. After he left, I must admit, it took me some time to get used to Jamie Kennedy. What was awesome about Ghost Whisperer is that it was so much more about making the most of our time while LIVING, as opposed to ghost mumbo jumbo. Each episode captivated my attention with ongoing story subplots as well as intriguing mystery with each week's challenging setup. This is a DVD collection that rarely goes on sale, so when I saw the opportunity to purchase for $20, I jumped on it. RIP Ghost Whisperer.

Always enjoy watching
Although I do not buy the beliefs about the dead that are depicted in this series, I do enjoy watching these. And I watch them over and over, because I love the setting, I really enjoy the interaction between "Melinda" and "Jim" (Jim is a sweetheart), and I love Melinda's clothes! The way she is depicted as having such a heart for helping people (and she tears up alot) really pulls me in. Some episodes are "believable" while others are the fiction (and lean toward "horror") they were meant to be. But still, always a fan. Wish this series would have continued longer. Not sure the addition of the little boy (toward the end) was wise.

Very Good Show But When Is Helpful Too Much?
I must admit that I really like the show but I'm gonna go for more of the negative for the sake of discussion.PROS:What I like about the show overall represents: the wholesomeness, spirituality, love represented between husband and wife; love between friends, the desire to help your fellow man. I also like that every show doesn't always necessarily end with happily ever after (though quite a few of them do).CONS:The more and more I watch the show I find that the script allows Jennifer's character, Melinda, to get more and more intrusive in people's lives as opposed to helpful. I found that to be so in the episode - Home But Not Alone. In addition to being intrusive, Melinda can sometimes force her help on others (not all the time, though) while wanting her own life to remain private. In other words, sometimes Melinda's 'help' can expose people who are hiding for good reason to bring their acts to light while wanting her own gifts and life to stay private. That borders on hypocrisy.Overall, the show is heart-touch and completely draw you in (even with the hypocrisy). Be prepared to have some hankies close by.Additionally, I still really miss Andrea's character. She really believed in Melinda's gift w/o bias as opposed to her current employee - though I really like the actress.
