14 selections, less than 40 minutes, album shorter than reunions
Granted, these guys haven't missed a lick. They are back in the punch of the punk, metal and reggae as always with no means of rusting through age or time apart, except H.R. He does not use the "throat" as his has on mostly all of previously Bad Brains albums. He has softened so much, he sounds like he's mumbling and sorry MCA (Adam Yauch of The Beastie Boys), your production sucks. The faster/slower echoisms were not needed for ROCK FOR LIGHT, which many fans compare this album to, why are the useless echos here? A ok effort overall tho'.OK, I've dissed Adam's production so what's left? Very little more. H.R. is older and softer on the vocals, check out his roots, rhyme, reggae on "Natty Dreadlocks 'pon the Mountain Top" it's cool. "Expand Your Soul" has got to be the only complete song on here, rock wise. "Universal Peace" the longest song on the album rock wise (3:04), "Roll On" reggae wise (4:04). "Pure Love" is a wasted :56 of the disc as you wait for more and it's already on the next selection. "Build A Nation" a two year old could have done the lyric arrangement for, sheez. Why bother? Also some of the tracks like "Until Kingdom Come" rock out but lyrically it does nothing for the selection. Sound like H.R. is just improvising lyrics and the beat goes on.The rest of the band are great on the music. Dr. Know gets into Vernon Reid/Eddie Van Halen modes at times, wish they'd last longer though. Darryl, Earl, WHASSUP!Glad that Bad Brains have reunioned (again-sorry I've lost count) for a 2007 EP (not LP, you can't call a 14 track/ less than 40 minutes CD an LP). H.R.'s voice softens with age. Lyric selection is still Gospel but vague (not getting the CD anywhere). Not one song out of 14 peaks 5 minutes and Adam Yauch should stick to his rugged-voice rapping with the Beasties. Yes I am glad to here them punk-out and reggae down but their metal length gems like "Re-ignition", "Soul Craft" and "God Of Love" are deeply missed here. Maybe in the next reunioned decade?

...and the band played on
Great googa mooga can't ya hear me talking to you? This is a quality effort by old hard core lions. I recommend it and I think you will enjoy it. It is not I against I nor the ROIR Sessions but a good album in its own right.

A disappointment
I was a huge Bad Brains fan - I against I was one of my favorites albums way back when. This album, in contrast, seems lifeless. Even on the harder, faster songs, it justsounds like they are going through the motions, and have lost any fire or passion in theirmusic.Maybe I just didn't get what they were trying to do, but it's hard to believe that this is thesame band that recorded their classic albums.

I and I Praise the Brains
Bad Brains have always been rather tough to figure out, even as their influence extends across several realms of rock. Their interests in hardcore, reggae, and metal don't always gel into a cohesive overall sound, but on this long-awaited new album they are relentlessly pursuing all of their interests with a nearly flawless new focus. Somehow, Bad Brains make songs of different and seemingly incompatible styles work on the same album. Nobody else could sound even remotely believable jumping from hardcore punk to dub reggae to anthemic metal in successive songs. The band's always complicated lynchpin H.R. sounds rejuvenated and his lyrics and vocals have found a strong (but still as nearly-unhinged as ever) focus around Rastafari. Earl and Darryl jump from style to style flawlessly, and Dr. Know continues his savage mutations of every guitar style known to man. The band's diverse interests are probably combined most evenly in the opener "Give Thanks and Praise." "Jah People Make the World Go Round" is a high-flying slab of metal, and especially punishing hardcore workouts are found in "Expand Your Soul" and "Let There be Angels (Just Like You)." Meanwhile, Bad Brains lay down dub-inflected reggae like the best of the Jamaican masters in "Natty Dreadlocks 'pon the Mountain Top," "Jah Love," and the surprisingly sinuous "Until Kingdom Comes." And finally, the Bad Brains attack climaxes in the sinister and insistent "Universal Peace," the apocalyptic music of which belies the title perfectly. [~doomsdayer520~]

The Masters of 'JAH' return!
Bomba Clot! Are you kidding me?They are Back! After soooo many break ups, these brothers have come back to build a nation without missing a beat! To those out in space, LITERALLY, all of these little 'so called punk bands that don't know how it's done, grab your thesaurus and start to study. HR, Dr. Know, Darryl Jennifer and Earl set the standard of raw, relentless, in your face punk. Many can and WILL say that the Sex Pistols, the New York Dolls and many others have come before the Brains but they are ALL GONE! All we have of them are memories but we STILL have Bad Brains for those who love PUNK, SKA, REGGAE & THRASH from when it started this is for us. Adam Yauch from the Beastie Boys (King AD Rock) produced this and he did a wonderful job. Let's keep punk moving in the >>>>>RIGHT>>>>> direction.BROOKLYN S T A N D U P!COOPER PARK50 DEBEVOISE AVE

Best return to form for the band
It’s almost like they were trying to recreate a modern version of their self titled album from 1980. Producer MCA was a big fan of that sound and the aggressive mix and punch of this album clearly shows that

Back to Reggae Ponk
