WHAT FUN!!! Delightful!!! (Now I need another one)
What a fun little gadget and so perfect for that small pickle serving I sometimes want to make. I finally found a WONDERFUL and EASY, QUICK pickle recipe that only takes about five minutes to put together and then a half hour to get REALLY YUMMY and the longer they sit after that the better, if you can keep hands off them. I can't share it here because it is copyrighted, but if you want, I will give you the link. WHAT FUN!!! And SO EASY!!!Update: Before I could make the new pickles I wanted to make with this, some fool actually stole it from my apartment while I was out running errands! So, I am ordering another one.

Works great, but could be a little more robust...
It works great, and I've made several batches of pickles since I've gotten it.This will hold about 1 lb of veg, maybe 1.5 lbs. It's easy to use, but the construction is very basic, and the plastic is thin. I don't imagine this would survive a fall from the counter or rough handling. Also, the latches on the side are not spring loaded. They are basically a gravity latch, that will fall into place as you put the lid on. I don't think some reviewers realized that, and they hold the lid in place just fine, as long as you are careful with how much pressure you apply with the "presser". If you just put the vegetables in, and try to screw the foot down all the way, you will definitely break this. You want to gradually add pressure as the pickles "condense". (Sorry, I don't know specific terms for these things)That being said, if you're careful with this, I can see it lasting many years, and it has absolutely done the job for me.Would definitely recommend.

Great for quick pickling in small quantities!
I got this to quickly pickle veggies. I like that it is small and easy to use. I don't pickle in large batches so this is great for doing a small amount of veggies and kimchi.

I wish I had looked more carefully
The post list the size correctly, but I didn't pay very close attention when I bought it. It works very well, I made sauerkraut the day after I got it and it turned out wonderful!! I was not deceived, but careless...I would like it to be 3 to 4 times the size. To be clear, I am 47 years old and have cooked professionally since high school. So...I am accustomed to cooking things in large quantities. If you want something to ferment a small amount of things, or possibly test recipes this is ideal.

This item is very cheaply made and breaks easily. Not worth the money!!
I bought this item to make my own oshinko veggies, called pickled veggies. I was very excited. My mother is Japanese and made pickled veggies all the time. I used to have one of these items but I misplaced it in one of my many moves. This item I just purchased from Amazon isn't worth the money I paid for it. It's cheaply made and it broke the very first time I used it. I threw it away in anger. I should've known by the name that it was advertised for. "JapanBargain 3871" It was less than a bargain. The instructions are all in Japanese, no translation at all. Don't buy this item!!

Doesn't mash all the way; spring is weak
This isn't for squeezing firmly. The disk is on a spring, so it can't mash all the way down. Unless you have the container at least half full, the masher will just sit on top, with very little pressure; hardly squeezes out anything.

Pickering container
The latches on the cover is cheaply designed. It keeps coming off as the compression screw is tightened. I am very dissatisfied with this particular product . These latches are flimsy and keep popping off.

Great tool, but used space is smaller
The product is from Japan, so the plastic is pretty good and durable as I expected. It feels a bit lighter and more flimsy but it's still tough. The top only holds by the two green snaps on both sides of the cover, which seems a bit strange at first, but it works fine.I've used it several times so far and I'm not disappointed. But the "weighted" part (there's no actual weight) doesn't go all the way up, so the space available is much lesser than I thought. There's a spring inside and a twisting device at the top of the cover in green that pushes the "weight" down. So at first you fill it up by about half of the space with your tsukemono/pickles, and the weight just stands on top of it at minimum pressure (highest possible) until you see that juices are starting to form and it softens, then you can start twisting the top and screwing down the weight further. It's not hard to remove and put the cover back on, even if it works with a spring.Overall I'm quite happy, only thing is that I expected the container to be able to make much more content. It said 1.6 liters but I don't think I get this much in pickles. I think I can fill maybe 800 ml maximum (about 3 cups) at first when the vegetables are fresh and crispy, and by the end you might get about half of that in pickles. So I recommend going for slightly bigger. I wish it used all of the container's space for pickling since I'm limited in space.I also didn't find a lot of recipes for this type of pickling at first, but the weighted method for North American pickling would work fine with this too. I ordered with NINJA HANZOU and it arrived really quickly. I think the shipping time was estimated at around one month, and it took half that time.
