Easier than precieved! Not overwhelming at all.
This game for me, was beyond amazing. It's funny how other reviewers say how frustrating and annoying the games are in this game, because I think the opposite! First off, the games are not THAT hard (and BTW, I find every Nancy game puzzles hard, and these puzzles, while really enjoyable and engaging, were not terribly hard, at all)! I think they were even abit easier and def. more funnier! Yes, there are a few puzzles that are a tad-bit annoying, but they are easy to use the cheat sheets with! Unlike other Nancy games, if you have any puzzle that's hard to master, you can use a cheat sheet and do the puzzle in quick time rather than take along time. What I really liked about this game too was, it was NEVER overwhelming to me! For example, in the game: The haunting of castle Malloy, when you first entered the castle, the room had ALOT of puzzles in it-and so did the other rooms. They didn't gradually build up, it was right in your face from beginning. (also the same with Legend of the crystal skull).I think this game was awesome, and very engaging. Every puzzle and bit of it, I enjoyed. And very scary!

Loved it!
Great game! Lots of detail in the graphics and the plot is really interesting and well written. I've replayed it several times and I still enjoy it. Just a note though- for a Nancy Drew game, it's quite scary. Not just spooky, I mean there's outright jumpscares- not to mention seeing the paranormal creature coming towards you and trying to choke you and hold you under water. So if you aren't into that, you may want to skip it. But if you can handle it, it's a great game! Good puzzles and everything too.

Mysteriously poor
I have played every Nancy Drew game available, and while this isn't the worst, it really comes up short in many ways. In short, if you are looking for a Nancy Drew title, choose another one (Dogs of Moon Lake is a nice place to start). Background: I am a physician, and always play with my wife (a physician) and my sister (a physician). Together we have played every ND title. This is a great series, and we always look forward to the new releases.Water's Edge was a big let down. My high expectations were based on a combination of great reviews, the setting, the scary first exposure to the haunting within the game, and the great games HerInteractive has delivered in the past. But, Nancy was wrong about this one...1. Settings: the game allows Nancy Drew to move around only during the night, although it takes a while to really communicate this tidbit to you. You can only visit a very limited number of places, and there's not much exploration to do -- you can visit the family hotel (that is haunted), an arcade, a closed expo center with a candy bar, and someone's one room apartment. That's it. None of the great sites that Japan has to offer.2. Plot: pretty much forgotten in this one. The hotel is haunted, Nancy self-appoints herself to figure out why. No one asks Nancy for help, she just zones in on this on her own. Multiple times, in fact, other characters ask her to stop prying into something that's "not her business." The storyline is very flat, with seemingly random events occuring that ultimately don't have relation to the game ending. Also, there isn't a feeling of pace to this game; there's no sense of urgency to save anyone. It was very easy for me to walk away from this game (unlike other titles, where we stayed up late into the morning). Rather in this game, we kept asking, "When will this end?"3. History/culture: everyone in Japan speaks English, which is good for Nancy. There is some forced culture (ie, mandatory calligraphy and origamy lessons), but there's really a lack of what a game set in Japan could offer. Other reviewers have praised the games as being Japanese -- for example, "loved the traditional Japanese puzzles" -- but it turns out Soduko isn't from Japan. It's evolution looks to have been through Indiana and France. My guess is many of the other reviewers are an average age of 8. Besides the visual cues and Japanese-accented English, there's nothing to flavor this as game as Japanese.4. Scariness: okay, here, finally, this title outdoes many of the others. This is one of the scarier titles, mainly because of the figure doing the haunting. But, I think it would be scarier if there was a good story line driving this along.5. Games/Puzzles: this series is known for having you solve a multide of various puzzles (words games, number games, order games, etc). There are some puzzles here, but I think less in total number and an over-emphasis of number games, that are pretty tedious at times. If this title had better puzzles (more in number and more in diversity), it may have carried the weaknesses of the game. So, that's my review. I'm only putting in AMAZON to balance out all the rave reviews others give this. I really wonder how many of the other Nancy Drew games they have played. I don't feel this title represents Nancy well at all. I would only buy this if you have played all the other games. Hopefully, the one coming out this month is better; however, I am sure it can't be any worse.

Not one of the best - Beware of game glitch
This game was alright. If you're looking for a Nancy Drew game with tons of secret passage ways and fun things to explore; this isn't it. It has a lot of puzzles and games to make up for it though. I loved the integration of Japanese culture in the game. However I ran into a problem with a glitch occurring at a part where you have to go around and record *ghostly sounds*. The recorder was full and it wouldn't let me delete any of the recordings I had already recorded. I was missing a key recording essential to the stories progression. According to HER interactive a downloadable patch is available for PC users but for MAC users the patch would automatically pop-up requesting to download at game start-up if you have proper internet connection (which I did, and the pop-up never occurred).. I e-mailed HER interactive support but after a few days waiting for a reply I gave up and re-started my entire game. (They eventually did contact me back asking me to send in my saved game with the glitch) But it just really wasn't worth the hassle.

Shadow at the Waters Edge
I was really looking forward to receiving this game - and I was not disappointed! The only thing I did not enjoy was how many nanograms and renograms there are, although you do not need to complete them all to proceed with the game - but you do get an easter egg if you manage to complete them all (apparently!).This is the 23rd game - what happened to Trail of the Twister (Game 22??) - why is it not available in the UK?

Excellent Nancy Drew game
Excellent Nancy Drew game, one of my favourites. Has a similar vibe to Message in a Haunted Mansion and Ghost of Thornton Hall.
