A very good guide to the Birds of the Masai Mara. Uses Photos
I am still learning my birds in Africa.WILDguides have put out books onBirds in the Masai MaraBirds in n the SerengetiBirds in Kenya's Rift Valley.I have them all-- I suspect their is a fair amount of overlap. The book is illustrated with excellent photos. Often the male and female are shown where they differ.Males in breeding colours are also often shown. The birds are also often shown in flight so that you can identify them in the air. Occasionally immature forms are shown..The photos are beautifully crisp which helps identification. There are useful brief comments. The sections are structured by where you are likely to see them.AccessOnly read if you have difficulty finding your way around kindle-- I am a Kindle novice and it took me a while to find my way around. Others may have better suggestionsAccess is easyThere are a number of waysThere is no direct access from the Table of contents.Note the page number and use the drop down menu, go to the page section , enter the number and you are there. ( the drop down menu is on the Kindle Reader-- Library icon. Also on my he drop down menu there are a full list of birds listed in the order of the Table of Contents. There also other ways of finding the bird you want. This is an excellent guide to the Birds of the Masai Mara.Well worth taking with you if you are visiting the area.WILDGuides do books on the Animals of the Masai too.Highly recommended.

I like it but a number of Mara birds are missing
I like it but a number of Mara birds are missing. Should have migratory birds to the area too! Using the book daily because of SafariLIVE, the binding is already falling apart. Will have to get it glued or the pages are going to start coming out!

Beautiful contents, but very poorly bound.
The book contents are amazing - beautiful photos and good descriptions - high quality paper, lovely to look at and hold, but, regrettably, with a VERY POOR paperback binding - and no hardback available. After 2 days of gentle viewing the spine has broken and is visible from page opening. Very sad as the book is otherwise gorgeous.

Covers the area well, good pictures
The binding has come unglued already. Disappointed in that.

Superb photographs and text.
A lovely book. Outstanding photographs and concise and informative descriptions. A terrific addition to my library for my last Kenya safari trip. However the binding is flimsy and pages will soon be falling out. I certainly wish this was available for my Kindle fire.

wonderful guide!
Since I am planning to visit Masai Mara, I decided to get some information before my trip. There are many excellent books for that purpose, but this one has a great advantage of being fully ilustrated and convenient sized, I mean, small enough to carry in your backpack during the safari. It is a good choice indeed!!!

Must have if you are visiting Mara
A must have for every bird or non-bird lover visiting Masai Mara. I am not a huge bird enthusiast but found this book to be great while in Mara.

Excellent book, let down by poor binding
This is a brilliant book! I'm no bird expert so I can’t vouch for its accuracy but I’ve found it invaluable for identifying birds I've photographed on safaris to the Masai Mara. The images in this book are high quality and I love the way the author has included shots to show variations - as well as the expected male/female shots there are also immature birds and breeding plumage in some cases which makes it so much easier to ID a bird. There are also very helpful images of vultures & raptors in flight. The text that accompanies each picture is concise and adds plenty of useful facts to aid identification such as size, key characteristics, bird calls and where you're likely to see the bird. The book itself is helpfully divided into habitats which makes it quite easy to find a bird you're trying to ID. (This may confuse you initially if, for example you think all kingfishers would be under 'Marsh & Water' - some are insect eaters and are correctly found under 'Woodland and Scrub').At £18 it’s a tad on the expensive side but I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone looking for a book on birds of the Masai Mara.Having said all that, why only 3 stars? Sadly the copy I received began to fall apart almost immediately due to poor binding. In less than 48 hours of flicking back and forth through it, the front cover had come off and large gaps were forming between bound sections. Such a pity as this is an otherwise excellent book. This copy is going back today but ill re-order a replacement in a couple of weeks and hope for a better version. If it is, then it will definitely warrant 5 stars.

Binding let's it down
Great book, very informative with lovely photos. Would have had a higher rating on the content alone. However the binding is of very poor quality & it began to come apart as soon as I started to use the book. Very disappointing for the priceEdit: Marked down to 2 as the pages have now come away from the spine fully after light use as a reference book for less than a month. Real shame

Very good information and illustrations
It's a great book but it is not put together very well as the pages become loosened due to poor binding which is why I have only given it 3 stars

Masai Magic
As if the anticipation of an upcoming Masai Mara trip wasn't sufficient, this volume arrives and ratchets up the excitement. Birds of the Masai Mara is not an exhaustive guide but it is a comprehensive one showing all the birds an interested observer is likely to see on safari. It is written in a very accessible fashion, so it's certainly not just for the twitching community. And the quality of the photos is stunning. Highly recommended.

A beautiful book, full of very nice images and very informative. It was great to use in the field in the mornings and made for interesting reading while I relaxed in my hammock in the afternoons. I saw lots of different bird books while on safari and found this one most enjoyable to use. Even my guide was using this in the Mara - says it all!
