After trying Mexico and Spain, UK's Whittard is the best!
This is by far the best powdered base hot chocolate I have found. I have tried both Hot Chocolate powders from Mexico and Spain, and this wins hands down. It's a bit different looking. It has a reddish tint to it with white specks. I mixed some for a test in just a half a cup of hot milk to see strictly what the base tasted like, and it was terrific! I like to add Cayenne and Cinnamin to my hot chocolate, so I wanted to see what this base was like for starters. It has few addictives to the ingredients, not full of junk. It's expensive, if you consider the free shipping is probably figured into the price, more like $12 bucks, and the container is not fat like in the photo. It's narrow, so that photo might have been adjusted by Photoshop to make you think it's a big bin. It's about 8 inches tall and almost 4 inches wide. Net weight says about 12 ounces or 350 grams. Ingredients say Cocoa, Sugar, Dextrose, salt. How much is this? It's about like buying a small Nestles Quick box at the local store. You will get quite a few cups out of this round container, and it is very, very good stuff. Worth $18 with shipping? Well, it ships from the UK so it's hard to say how much the shipping charges are and how much they are actually charging for the Cocoa. But it comes pretty quickly, took about a week to get here in Iowa, so that is not too bad, and if you just buy it once in a while on a low budget, perhaps it's ok as a birthday or special occasion. Otherwise, it's pricey!! A final note here. I have tried Spicey Hot Chocolate from Mexico, several brands and Palador from Spain, and this stuff is much better then those brands. Dabgoba is pretty good as was the Popular brand. Moonstruck was another option or Spicey Aztec. I am will to bet that this stuff is the best overall. The very best is of course I think making Hot Chocolate from scratch with semi sweet baking chocolate bars because you don't get the powder taste. Even with this stuff, you cannot get around the powder taste, it's there, but not bad at all. No doubt about it, this is good stuff!
