The Skeleth: Book 2 of The Nethergrim Trilogy

Exceeded already high expectations
Book two of the Nethergrim series is harder to put down than the first which is saying quite a lot.Our heroes have returned home to great fame and celebration, at least within the confines of their own small village. But the world is a bigger place and will not pause for their rest and recovery if it takes note of their deeds at all. There is still a great evil afoot. And many smaller evils. And countless things that could be good or evil depending on your vantage point. The victor writes the histories but often those books are ignored, edited, or lost altogether.Though the Skeleth is fantasy, everything from tedious castle chores to frantic battles are so detailed and realistic that your mind has no trouble becoming utterly lost in Jobin's world for the duration of the story. My only complaint is that because book two was just released I can't immediately dive into book three.

The Nethergrim series is well crafted . I started looking for book 3 only to discover The Skeleth has just been released and Likley book 3 won't be available for a bit with luck in time for Christmas. No word about it discovered. The author makes his charactors appealing . He also ties up each story with an appropriate ending which make them able to stand alone ,while leaving room for additional books. Recommend highly

Classic fantasy, vividly told
Fantastic second book in the Nethergrim series. Just as I had hoped, in this volume we start to see more of the politics and systems of magic in this world and it is all so detailed that it seems utterly real. I can't wait for book 3!This series is great for tweens/teens who aren't ready for Song of Ice and Fire and other adult series, but still want a story with great pacing, compelling characters, and real stakes. The darker elements of life in a fantasy universe are not glossed over here, and the plot is sophisticated enough that I had to cross-reference the map more than once.

The Skeleth is an excellent return to the fantastic world and characters established in The Nethergrim. A story full of political intrigue, rising adventure, ancient riddles, loyal companions (animal and otherwise), and enough surprises to delight someone of any age!

The Wait Is Over!
Plots. Plots. Plots Everywhere! So is this latest installment of the Nethergrim Series. Each of its main characters learnes the intrigues and politics of Court while an ancient evil is awakened. Central to this is what magic costs.Although the return of Edmund and Tom is expected, it's Katherine who reigns. She is highly featured or at least seems to be a strong young teen who takes her place among the greatest strategists to date. Her life lessons hone her skills and she develops her intuition which is a game changer. The descriptions of battle was spot on. In many ways I felt like I was reading Gane of Thrones and Lord of The Rings. The emotion and anticipation of arrows made for a great roller coaster ride. The ancient evil will be a must see when this will see a movie release. I for one have no interest of ever being taken. This evil grips you and the lesson here pulls you at the heart strings.I only wish that the character of Elli gets more of a backstory. She felt like she could've been flushed out more for her reasons to get to know the characters. My hope is she is in the next book.I felt like this book captured female characters well and have them a front seat to the action. They have a say in all that transpires and hold the key to this tale.Looking forward to more :-)

Even better than book one!
I thought the first book was a cute, young fantasy novel. I expected more of the same going in to book two. It was that, but this round was so much more. The armies, backstabbing rulers, unexpected heroes and ultimate battles took this to a whole new level for me. Seeing the main trio split up by circumstance was a perfect opportunity to learn about them as individuals. They have weaknesses—some that they are able to overcome, but many that make them weak and suffer. That was a dose of realism that I appreciated. One of the real treasures of this series so far is how integral each character is in the ongoing plot. There is no one great character destined to save the world. This isn't a series where the lowly boy overcomes all, while no credit goes to his little sidekicks. Each character plays a part, using their individual strengths to make up for the others' weaknesses. Where one has magic, the other has military skill and strategy. Yet again, another has the wisdom and compassion. Seeing them realize how much stronger they can be together, how much can be learned from trust and teamwork, was a beautifully told lesson. Not only do we get to experience the growth of the main characters, but there are so many secondary characters that evolve as beautifully. Edmund's younger brother grows to play an integral role, leaving behind his previous role as immature annoying brother. The young Harry, raised as a privileged heir, finds ways to come into his own, and become the man he needs to be. Even the parents and villagers evolve as they witness the darker aspects written so masterfully into The Skeleth. It is never too heavy for young readers, but it definitely doesn't gloss over the strife and evil they are facing. It doesn't always turn out so happily for everyone, and each victory is recognized as being only a brief respite in the ultimate battle. It follows the well loved path of dramatic ultimate battles, betrayals, and burgeoning romances, but does it seamlessly, and without pilfering from works that have come before. It's a modern classic, and if the next books follow suit it will hold a place on the bookshelves of fantasy lovers for years to come. - GMB

One of the best!
This series is turning out to be one of the best I've read in fantasy adventure. Three main young characters, Edmund, Katherine and Tom, set off in new directions now to help save their people from The Skeleth. They are maturing and changing in ways that I did not anticipate in The Nethergrim. This is a gripping tale, with twists and turns, that will have every reader, young and old, cheering our young heroes on. If you enjoyed The Chronicles Of Narnia, Harry Potter or The Game Of Thrones, for the older reader, pick this book up, you will not be disappointed. Read The Nethergrim first, as it will introduce you to the trio and also their older heroes, who play a huge part in the lives of these young people. The Skeleth is a detailed medieval tale that is beautifully written. Bravo to the author, and to the publisher! Highly recommend this one, looking forward to Book 3.
