This was so cool for my 10-year-old! When you order it, you get the globe ball and then you have to go online and order the stuff that goes in it. It ships pretty quickly and works from day one. It’s really cool to shake the or ball and see how it lights up. My daughter actually wanted to end up learning more about the bio luminescence and did research on her own.

Received the orb very quickly and promptly ordered the liquid. It arrived and I followed the instructions exactly but never had any luck with bioluminescence. Tried everything in the manual, eventually reached out to their customer service but have not gotten a reply. Too late to return through amazon and i don’t want to buy a replacement, I just need water with actual living plankton that glows!

This kit was missing stuff, all it came with was a plastic orb looking thing. Unable to do anything with it unfortunately...

It's neat to see the glow once they get going. However, there is one big problem that isn't really made fully clear on the page: Yes, they will only glow at night. In the dark.No, really in the dark. Dark dark. Like get in a closet dark. And only for a second, if that.In short, while it's neat to see, it's just too difficult to be worth it, IMO.

I received the orb and opened it to find the redemption code for the dinoflagellate "PyroDinos" solution. I ordered that with the code and a few days later they arrived. Following the guide we filled the orb and let it sit for a little over a day in a room next to some plants. I just looked at the orb and it was starting to turn a slight yellow color which seems to be what you want. on the third night we swirled it around in the pitch black room. It was awesome! It is quite amazing to see what nature can such as this. This would be an amazing gift for anyone who loves science stuff!

I'm impressed how fast they sent the supplies, as it's live plankton, and we had this up and running shortly after ordering. The odd part is that you DO have to agitate the plankton to make them illuminate, so it's not apparent what the "orb of water" is until it's pitch dark and you swirl it around. However, it's still ridiculously cool.The biggest disappointment is that the glass orb has a flat bottom but no stabilizing base. It just seems too easy to knock over. I think this would have a lot more popularity if it had a base and slightly larger for the cost... and a magnetic laboratory style agitator to make it illuminate without having to pick it up and risk dropiing or damage with kids.Overall, a GREAT science lesson for kids. I told my kids how we used bioluminescent plankton to track submarines back in my intel days and they are fascinated to have another living ecosystem in our house- as we have several.
