Unlike most books on the subject, which go into great detail about a few famous pirates, West's book gives an overview of the whole group. If you're interested in the subject, this is an ideal place to start your studies. You'll learn the names of the players, their timeline, and how each contributed to the age of piracy.

Extremely well written and incredible story - very informative about The Pirates. Highly suggested and I'd be willing to bet anyone except maybe a historian will learn a great deal from reading this amazing book. Very easy read as well.

A straight forward no embellishment history of the golden age of piracy from about 1690 to the 1720s. All the well known names and many others are there. The pirates (all European in origin) ranged from the East Coast of North America to the Indian ocean. All after adventure and loot, few ended well. A revealing look at a subject receiving little attention in history books today.

I read this outlaid to my husband before bed. It was fun and entertaining bios about different pirate and captains. Great read, definitely give it a try. They are brief, but good.

This book had some neat stories and an overview of the golden age of piracy. It’s relatively short and moves along. It doesn’tGo too intensely into any one area of the subject. If you are interested in a high level book, this is a decent choice.

I enjoyed this book even though I'm not a diehard pirate fan. It's a pretty entertaining guide on everything piratey. It explores the careers of several famous pirates, explodes myths and generally talks about the pirate culture and why it developed in the golden age of pirating.

Very interesting and just the amount of information I wanted to read about pirates -- not a lengthy and detailed book, but one that covers their history through about 50 years (1670-1720 or so). Lots of interesting stories and characters.

Breathtakingly told! Whether you are a history buff or just intrigued by tales of villainy and swashbuckling pirates, this book is a must read!
