Good for summer enrichment
I used this book with my students to prepare in case we had the NJSLA which did not happen in 2021. However, while the virtual options are really great and amazing. The book itself is fairly functionless. There are very few actual questions or preparations that the textbook itself provides and I think that is to push you into the virtual option. I hated the limited accessibility since I have students who performed better on paper than virtual. This book is not a resource but the virtual option is. If possible avoid the book and save money just registering for the virtual options.

Great help for Reading Comprehension
I teach an advanced and a lower level 5th grade ELA class. The LL kids have a hard time pulling out basic information from short texts. This practice book helps them see the texts in different ways and find different information because it uses the same text multiple times, but each time asks to find something different. For example, a short 4 paragraph text will be used to find the main idea and supporting details, then in another chapter, the same text will be used to draw inferences and conclusions. This is great because the students have already been introduced to the text and are familiar with the particulars.I'd rate the book 5 stars, but for my AD class, it it a little too easy. They fly through the sections and become easily bored with the repetition of the texts.

Great resource!
I found this book to be extremely helpful in preparing my students for the NJSLA. Not only did I explore it with my 5th graders, but I used some of the skills with my lower level 6-8th graders. The texts that were in the book were also a great resource because it exposed my students to grade level text, whether or not it was their independent reading level. My students specifically struggled with how point of view impacts different events in a story, but point of view section of this book helped clarify.

Great for Standardized testing review for 5th graders
The book allowed my child to have an exceptionally good grasp on Ela skills for her standardized testing. It covered all the relevant subjects. I think it is worth the purchase given the importance of testing these days.
