This album is brilliant...no doubt but confition of product was subpar
While expected minor wear as would be expected for an older album the condition of the sleeve and vinyl was not as described upon sale. Very disappointing as this was a gift for someone and I felt the condition was a bit of a let down.

The CD-4 version beats the two-channel version any day
As an early adopter of 4-channel hardware and recordings in the 1970s, I was astounded by the beauty and clarity of this disc. CD-4 had a reputation of being finicky and noisy, but well-recorded and well-pressed discs such as this one played on properly aligned equipment provided a major leap forward in sound quality. Unlike matrix technology, these JVC carrier discs represented mature technology that was similar in ways to the long-established FM-multiplex radio broadcast standard (CD-4 being essentially a closed-circuit FM multiplex broadcast). A major impediment was the oil crisis of that year, which led to inferior polyvinyl chloride being used, degrading the complex structure of the groove and causing premature wear and shortened lifespan of the carrier modulations etched on the baseband grooves. These problems notwithstanding, these discs were the harbinger of the near future when Dolby Stereo (both discrete and matrix) would more-widely popularize multi-channel movie soundtracks and lead to the home theater multi-channel audio revolution. Quad's market failure in the 70s shouldn't be blamed on these multiplex discs, and if you have the right equipment operating at spec, I feel sure that you, too, will be captivated as I was.

Really dirty record, don’t know where the A rating comes from?
Record quality is disappointing.Lots of surface marks although this really just shows signs of use.But the record itself is quite obviously very dirty indeed, full of clicks and pops when played, if fact I stopped playing it as I got so frustrated with this.I am awaiting a record cleaning machine which has really good reviews so this record will be a damn good test for it. Very disappointed. Even if the seller grades records on a visual inspection only, this is certainly not an A grade item. Time will tell if it can be resurrected after a good deep clean. So my advice is do not buy from this seller, there are plenty of good sellers on a well known online auction site that give accurate and consistent reviews on the quality and condition of the vinyl records they sell. They say you get what you pay for, well I didn’t in this case….

Classical done the Japanese electronic way
I like the music of Debussy and I've always liked good electronic music, for example, early Tangerine Dream (Phaedra) to a more simple style like early Jean Michel Jarre (now very dated). In the world of popular electronic music (and I don't mean some of the rubbish played on TOTP) this does stand up. I heard this first in the mid to late 70s and this fits into this era very well. Experimental and avant-garde in its day. You could bracket Tomita in possibly the same way as early (post Roxy Music) Brian Eno. The original music is beautiful and what is produced here has just taken it to another level (amient in modern parlence, maybe) and has not lost any of its beauty. The only negative, and it's not really that, is that time has not been kind and it does sound a bit old fashioned .....but when I listen to it am transported back to the same era in which it was made.
