No special App required!! :D
Lets face it. Paying extra for larger capacity on your Apple product is not fair. It used to be, that if you wanted to add extra external storage, you had to get a specific app in the App Store. Half the time those weren't very good. Now that Apple finally added an app called "Files" to the OS, things are much easier. This little USB adapter allows you to put anything on a thumb drive, and you can access it on your Apple device via the files app. I have a very small 64 gig flash drive that works with this like a dream. I've also used a 32 gig PNY, 32 gig Store N Go and others. All work fine.I recommend this to anyone who thinks paying extra for more storage is ridiculous. It is small, and fits in the 5th pocket of your jeans.***For those who think the reviews on this site may be rigged....Please note: I Do Not receive any discounts for my reviews. Could’ve been great but terrible durability (Updated)
Update (Apr 19, 2020)Just as I had feared, the lightning connecter on the adapter failed. Quite depressing considering that the adapter worked only for around 3-5 days of usage. When it is detected, iOS reports accessory is not supported (tested with SanDisk cruzer glide which has an indicator light when detected).Old review:This adapter works as advertised. It is important to note that the adapter only supports low power usb devices like usb flash drives as described in the description, however, with the use of a powered usb hub, it can support higher powered devices. Multiple usb devices can then be used via the usb hub. Here’s how to get that to work:1) Plug in the lightning to USB adapter2) Plug in the powered usb hub (I recommend Sabrent’s Powered USB hub w/ ac adapter but any powered usb hub with an ac adapter should work3) Plug in the USB devices and power on the ports.*Please note that all external storage devices must be formatted to exFAT. To format your drive, plug the device into your pc, backup the files (copy and paste into home screen), right click the drive and click format and configure it to exFAT then drag all your files back into it. For MyPassport users, there is a utility which will format the drive for you, however, make sure to backup the drive first.I haven’t noticed any issue with the adapter, however, I’m worried about the lighting plug being an area for weakness. I’ll post updates if anything new comes up.

Yes and no
Does what it should, but is not compatible with a phone case, which is kind of annoying, but it is exactly what I wanted it to be, outside of that small detail.

Didn't work with any accessory
I tried it with several different accessories and it wouldn't recognize any of them, so I returned it and spent the extra money on Apple's name brand, which works perfectly.
