Excellent Water Filter
Bought this to turn into a gravity filter. Worked like a charm! Pics are from my trial run before my backpacking trip. Poked a small hole in the side of the dry bag, screwed tight the little plug, attached the hose and filter, and then let the water flow! No leaks, or problems with the water filtering. The dry bag is 10 L (which I purchased from Amazon as well for about $13). Typical pre-assembled gravity bags will run you $75+. This filter and the bag cost me less than $35.For those who might question why I put the hose on the side (rather than in the bottom) it's because the water you're using might have silt or other things in it (especially if you're getting it from a lake or river) - these will eventually settle below the plug line - and is just one less thing your filter has to deal with. You'll get slightly less usable water....but less obstructions or problems with the filter and hose.

I tested this product in a very grueling environment.
Overall, I would put this product down as a 3.5 star item. It works as described, however it doesn't work well under a "high stress" condition if the water is heavy in sediment. I tested this product in a rather rigorous environment. I bought it as I was heading into the Grand Canyon for a multiday trip below the rim on a trail where the only water source was the Colorado River. The Colorado is extremely heavy with sediment and this filter was unable to handle the amount of sediment for long without needing to be flushed out with clean water. Here's a list of pros and cons.Pros:- light weight-easy to fit into a full pack for multiday camping- didn't get sick from drinking the water- decently high lifespan of filterCons:- can't withstand heavy sediment in water (we even skimmed off the top of the collection water to alleviate the issue)- took almost 1.5 hours to filter roughly 3 Gal. Due to how frequently the filter got completely occluded

Great filter at a great price.
Took a bunch of these to Puerto Rico after the hurricane. We gave them out and used them ourselves. There is very limited drinking water and people are having a hard time finding it. I was very impressed with the quality of this filter, and how handy it is. We tried it attached to a bucket, and used plastic bags. Worked great! Just wish it had another hose segment.

More than what I was expecting!
We have been planning an off the grid camping trip for a few months now and I wanted to make sure we didn't have to worry about water. We had the perfect location picked. We had our gear packed up. We waited for the weather to clear(ish). And we were off. After the drive and the walk through the wild, we were at our location! It was perfect. Or so we thought at first sight. Between the mud and bugs, we set up camp. The wild life was amazing. The ticks, nats, biting fly's and wolf spiders, it amazed me why no one else was there. it was a very pretty location and the only thing that did not go wrong was this filter! Everything was wet, the food went bad the fire was extremely hard to keep up with. zippers broke on at least one of the tents. But the water was good. it was easy to place it on the dry bag. Easy to clean the filter when it slows to a drip. Easy to attach to a tree. More than what we were expecting! Getting a couple more of these bad boys! The trip was a bust! No question, but next trip we take will be outside the Midwest monsoon season, with our new filter.

Light and compact for hiking/camping
I bought this for a three day hiking/camping trip out to the Pacific Ocean with three other people. The natural water source near our campsite is known to have giardia and cryptosporidium (sp?) so I definitely needed a quality water filter to keep the four of us healthy while we were out there and this water filter system did the trick!I bought it with the 3 liter gravity feed bladder so we would have filtered water for the whole camp. The entire kit weighed less than a pound and compacts down nicely to fit in a backpack. The setup instructions were easy to follow. The only difficulty I experienced was in trying to fill the bladder the first time. I tried scooping the water from a small pool in the stream but I wasn't able to get more than a liter in the bladder as it wanted to float. However, I discovered an area of the stream where the watered trickled/cascaded down some rocks (the stream was very low) and I opened the bladder's wide mouth and set it into the trickle. That's when it filled fast and easy.We were lucky that the stream was clear with very little sediment so we didn't experience any restrictions in flow from the water filter, but I still back flowed the water filter each day with filtered water just to ensure smooth operation. If I come across a stream with heavier sediment, I'll just let the water bladder sit for a while to allow the sediment to settle to the bottom before hooking up the filter. All in all, I'm really glad I got this filtration system as it was perfect for what I needed. I look forward to using it again on our future backpacking trips!

Loved it and it was perfect to send to Puerto Rico for the people affected by Hurricane Maria. We purchased numerous filters and sent them to family members who are currently using them to help filter water.

Good To Have Around.
Received quickly. Setting up survival kit. We're not survivalists, but living in country one learns quickly to not rely on any outside help, let along in any emergency situation. This kit makes any 5 gallon bucket into a drinkable or food prep supply source. By using only the filter, one end is threaded to also work on a empty/clean 1 or 2 liter soda bottle for filtered(not purified) water for individual drinking. It won't purify any water-borne cysts or gardia that make for intestinal problems as that will require purification tablets. I will probably order more as having an emergency water filtering system for when out camping or hiking could/can save your life when miles from any hospital.

Pleasantly surprised
If you buy this product also buy 4ft/1.2m of silicone/ neoprene hose/tubing with an internal diameter of 4mm and a double end push fit adapter to extend the hoses just in case there's not a narrow tree trunk handy that way the filter can be filling on the groung and you can busily making camp, fire, or whatever and not holding the receiver bottle as it fills. You'll need to support the flat receiver bottle with logs or use a flat bottom plastic bottle. Although this will also require support initially until sufficient water is inside and it can free stand. This was designed to be affordable, practical and lightweight too with more options of repair than some of the top end gravity feed water filters. For something I initially thought visually not to be upto longevity I now think it could last as long as most of the other brands but not if stored somewhere cold.

Didn’t rate it.
I threw mine away. It doesn’t pre-filter, it doesn’t sort colour, and it feels plasticky enough that I just don’t trust it.I’ve since bitten the bullet and actually invested in a proper setup (first need XL, gravity works, steripen) that will work anywhere in the world, and I’m very much feeling that the old maxim ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ is the order of the day here.It pumps quickly enough, but the whole feel of the product screams cheap and therefore perhaps less attention to detail, or a skimp on a corner where one day I might end up with a fail that costs me a holiday or worse.Perhaps I’m picky, but I would never have felt comfortable trusting to this, and it should be said you should never trust to a single method anyway.

Tried it for real
I was disappointed to read reviews saying they used this product to filter tap water...is that a good test.I used this product to filter water from an outdoor source when my camel pack leaked. The water has bugs and algae.Filter very quickly, I did add a silver chloride tablet as well admittedly. Made coffees and drank 2 litres with no bad taste or sickness.Tested. Good product, will be using on a 2 week expedition

This filter is amazeballs!!! Buy IT!!! NOW!!!
This is great. I don't bring any water on my treks if I now I will be passing by a freshwater source. I have this and two filter straws. I barely use them. I use this and fill up my water bags whenever I get the possibility. THe flow rate is great and the filtration is top notch. This is in my opinion an essential piece of kit if out in nature exploring unless you happen to be in the desert maybe.
