Hive Disc GolfPractice Basket Cross Chains

I'm putting in 18 holes on a small private course. Nothing fancy, only for friends. I've been scrutinizing the basket market, looking for a good basket at lower than average price since I need so many.I picked up 6 Hive Cross Chains baskets at $70 each, on special. I wasn't sure what I'd get at 30 pounds and I hadn't ever played on a cross chain basket.The day before they arrived I saw a Westlake Weekender II in a store. It was $70 and very similar in design. Wow, was that a flimsy goal. My stomach turned and I tried to cancel the whole order.Luckily it was too late. I assembled the first one and it was a hoot. I've got some machining experience and have a keen eye for manufacturing accuracy. Lemme put it plainly - this disc golf target is the FINEST economical, large scale, powder coated metal item composed of several parts I have ever assembled. EVERYTHING was straight and uniformly painted. It was packed well. And it fit together like a dream.Once assembled it was stout but not heavy. From 20 feet the chains seemed to grab very well, another big worry it passed with honors.Those two bums in my picture are looking at a hole in one I threw from about 150 feet. That disc had some heat on it and the chains snagged 'er and hauled it on home.For $70 this goal was a steal. At $90 normal retail you've got more choices, but only upon overall weight or chain arrangement. No way the quality of construction could be improved much, it's already a wonderfully made piece.No wheel but not needed. Picked it up by myself and carried assembled to several locations around an old cornfield.Just an awesome portable target which grabbed discs like King Kong. Will it rust? Probably. But only way to avoid that is with galvanizing and the only basket on the market under $200 with galvanized parts is the Titan Pro portable. And it weighs 46 pounds, a big difference.I'm thrilled my order wasn't cancelled. These goals are a big winner at this price and weight.

These baskets are the best quality for the price, I have paid a $130 for a way lesser basket!All of the Pole connections are tapped and screw in, instead of the slide in and latch bolt design.As mentioned below in a different review, The horizontal chains are merely strung through the vertical chains. This does not work well due to shifting of the chains, suddenly huge holes that your disc can go right through will appear. The best method for doing this takes some time but is 100% worth it. Start by unstringing the horizontal chain by opening one of the ends on the S link . For the top string of chain you will count out 6 links and open the end to remove it from the chain. You will find that you will come out with 6 links for every set with the exception of the last one which will be 5 if you use the S link. Do the same process as above for the bottom string of horizontal chain but use only 5 for the string count between the vertical chains. Someone said to try zip ties but that doesn't stand up to heavy use and worth the time if used heavily. It's also when you hand connect them to each chain it looks so much better!

Really solid construction and very easy to setup. The one thing that is needed is a way to lock the horizontal chains at equal distances . As stated in a previous review. I bought a hog ring pliers and rings set from Amazon and just put a ring every 6 chain links on the top chain and every 5 links on the bottom chain. Perfect now.

It is what it is… A good practice basket for the money.

So if you were at all into the sport of this golfing and you want something to be able to do in your own backyard or on your own land this is an amazing product!! It’s only $80 compared to some that are 200 that come with the exact same features as this one. It’s yellow so it’s really easy to see in whatever field you set it up, it’s very sturdy and it would be a great gift to somebody who’s interested in the sport.

Just got this goal recently in addition to other MVP-branded goals. Unfortunately, the cross chains on this Hive are set up in a way that they are not connected to the down chains, like most other similar models from other companies.Instead of having a symmetrical distance between each down chain, the cross chains move and will sometimes have more or less chains between a down chain section than the one next to it. They also hang in an unsightly way.A better design would be to actually connect the cross chains to the down chains, as other competing disc golf baskets in this budget class have done.The rest of the goal is good so far and sturdy enough for our miniature 11 hole course in our yard. It was also easy to set up.It's serving it's purpose but I feel the chains could grip better if they were attached to the down chains like other cross chain goals out there (some also made by MVP).For that reason I would choose another brand when purchasing in the future, as there are others with a similar price tag with a little better quality.

I like the sturdiness of this basket. The chains will need worked on but a good basket for practice in the yard.

I bought this basket for my kids to have in the house.I am very Impressed with the overall sturdiness of this basket.Both my 3 year old and 2 year old have climbed into it at the same time (They are wild). It held them with ease, no bending or teetering. This thing is STURDY. It is way nicer and better built than my second hand Ebay basket in the yard. Goes together in 5 mins. No tools required. You wont regret buying this basket.
