Honeywell Uvex Bionic Face Shield with Clear Polycarbonate Visor and Anti-Fog/Hard Coat (S8510)

Pros: No fog, crystal-clear, light, very adjustable Cons: none for me yet Fog: I haven't had any experience of it fogging up yet, nor inside my safety glasses being worn underneath it. I live in the desert, though, so can't speak for humid environments. Nonetheless, I've gone out of my way to try to make it fog up and it hasn't. If your safety glasses normally don't have any fogging issues, they shouldn't inside here either. Visor: The visor is remarkably clear. Depending on the lighting and where you're looking, it sometimes almost seems like nothing is there (granted, it hasn't been abused for months yet). Since the manufacturer is Honeywell, replacements should be fairly easy to get for some time yet as well. Fit: The unit is light and not distracting. There's several points and positions at which it can be adjusted for fit. I think you'd have to be at the far ends of the head size spectrum to not be able to find a good or decent fit in here. Even then, you're probably still going to be fine. Ears: In my case, it sits up high enough on the head that it doesn't interfere with anything along the tops of my ears. I've used it with safety glasses while wearing Shokz headphones and Powerbeats headphones, both of which are around-the-ear designs. However, ear muffs are a bit iffy. I could make it work, but only by wearing the face shield forward in such a manner as I would not actually wear it in use, so you should count on using earplugs or headphones for ear protection. I primarily bought this for extra protection while doing random grinding/cutting/de-burring, as debris can still bounce up under the narrow openings of safety glasses; but I can see myself using this when I'm woodworking, especially on table routers and table saws. Highly recommend and would buy again. (Note: In the video I posted, I'm exhaling deep, hot diaphragm breaths into the mask and it's not producing any fog. I also have my safety glasses on in there too, which remained fog-free. I had my phone shoved up in there in such a manner as to not be blocking anything or creating any extra airflow beyond normal. I would also note that the garage I'm in was reading at 103°F at the time.)

I'm a retired machinist with over 25 years running all sorts of machines. Because of this I've used all sorts of different face protection. I'm now getting into wood turning and even though I knew I needed a face shield I had been putting it off. I had neck surgery about 5 yrs. ago so my neck isn't as strong as it used to be so I've been putting off getting a face shield. Until I had a 3" inch long piece of wood come out of a piece of Willow I was turning and stuck in my hair. It just missed sticking me in the face and happened so fast I didn't even see it. That's when I decided it was time to get that face shield. After a lot of looking I picked this one. The clear part wraps around the front to the sides far enough to give a good wide angle view. The bottom of it dips down far enough to cover the throat area and the top curves up and back giving protection from flying pieces from the front. The head gear for holding it is far better than the usual face shields have. The Head Band has a dial at the back that you push in and turn to tighten or loosen it. It also has padding in the front and back. I might add more to the front in the summer for a sweat band but for now its OK. The band going over the top has the usual hole and pin adjustment. The hinges on the side can be adjusted to set the face shield closer or further away from your face and that's really nice. Its something that I haven't seen on any of the other face shields I've used. When it came it had protective plastic film on both sides of the clear face shield that I had to peel off. It's a bit difficult to get the shield into the shell so to keep from getting finger prints on the face shield, and possibly scratching it, I only peeled the plastic film cover back about half an inch to a inch from the edges. Then mounted it in the shell before I finished peeling the protective film off the face shield. This Face Shield is pretty light compared to a lot of the others but it's still heavy enough to notice. Since I've had my neck operated on I can only stand to wear this for a few minutes at a time. I'm hoping that as I continue to use it my neck will get stronger and it wont be so hard to keep it on. The only thing that would make it even better would be having some pieces of protective film to put on the face shield to help keep it from getting scratched. Then when they get too dirty to see through just peel them off and put on a new one. I've seen these for the Trend Airshield Pro. I might try some of those for this face shield. Overall I think this is about the best face shield/face protection you can get without going to a full helmet setup. I have no problem with giving this a recommendation for anybody that's looking for face protection while running a lathe, a line trimmer outside, a bench grinder/cutoff saw, or any of the other things that you could need good protection for your face.

Photos: I included the pics to show the clarity of the lens as well as no scratches from either peeling off the film after taking out of package, frequent use & cleaning. Below I cover as much about my personal experience in using this shield. We have 3 double coated dogs & when I blow dry them or use the bower while brushing, lots of fur goes flying everywhere wet or dry. I I bought this to help keep the fur from getting in my face, eyes etc.. Anti fog: It still fogs a little just from breathing normally but it's not a big issue or problem. Comfort: It's very lightweight & the forehead foam strip is comfortable even after tightening it. Adjustment: The head strap is very easy to adjust & the shield lifts up & down easy w/o pulling it off your head from moving it up & down. Shield: It has a wide vision coverage so you don't have a small limited vision field. I use paper towel & water to clean the shield & prevent accidentally scratching the lens. Protection: As i have not used it working on anything with projectiles other than fur, I cannot say how strong the sheild is in protecting your face from potential injury. There is plenty of room to wear safety glasses underneath if you want extra protection for ease of mind. Ear protection: I would suggest depending on what kind of job you're doing to use separate ear protection as this shield does not fully cover the ears & it's just a hard plastic that could still break is anything heavy enough hits it. NOTE: I read some reviews complaining about the lens becoming scratched before use due to just taking the sticker on the front of the mask in the middle of it. There is a light blue color film that covers the lens. It is easy to peel off (front & back of lens) & mine never got scratched. I have tried multiple kinds of face sheilds & the ones with just a forehead strap & shield are junk. The shield if flimsy & the strap comes with adhesive foam that does not last long before it won't stay on plus no protection from projectiles getting to your fave from the sides. I'm very happy with this shield for the job that I bought it for protection. If you don't have a dog/s, fur getting stuck to your face or in your eyes or nose is not pleasant. I hope this review helps! :)

It's cheap and useable. The adjustment knobs on the inside are flimsy and mine aren't properly aligned, but it's plastic so I don't expect it to be machined perfectly. One upside to plastic is that the face shield isn't heavy, and can be worn comfortably for hours.

While looking for a new shield to use with a wood lathe I came across this one. It had an appealing look to it and a description that I found intriguing. When using it I immediately found that I really was impressed with the feel of it on my head and the ease that I had in adjusting it so that it wouldn't slip on my head. Adding to that, I found that the adjustments built in to this model allowed me to wear a Resp-O-Rator without it interfering with either. I also found that after wearing it for awhile I forgot that it was there. For instance, when I went to scratch my nose I impacted the shield with my hand, thus realizing that it was in place. My vision isn't hampered in any way with the shield in the down position. In one instance, I forgot to lower the shield while working with a rotary tool and it was a few moments before I realized what I had not done, because of there being no difference in my eye view with the shield down or up. That to me was impressive. The most impressive feature I found so satisfying was the adjustment for wearing the shield. It's a rotary knob on the back of the head piece that is immediately responsive to the users input. You simply turn the knob clockwise to tighten or counter clockwise to loosen, and because of the gearing incorporated in the device you immediately find your comfort level. When taking off the shield, turning the knob counter clockwise immediately loosens the head gear for effortless removal. The thick padding around the area that contacts your head eliminates the problem with headaches after continued use, which was very important to me. Since there will be times that the shield becomes scratched/marred by materials that you are working with, it was important to me that a replacement shield be available that would be inexpensive and easy to remove and replace on the head gear, and that is precisely what the folks at Uvex have designed. They also have different colors available depending on your application of the product, which I found intuitive on their part. In summary, this Bionic Shield is the best one for the application and the cost. I would recommend it to anyone who is a woodworker in a heartbeat.

Debris would often pass around my 3M face shield while engaged in extensive string trimming work. So, I searched and found this face shield which has since not allowed any debris into my eyes during the same job. As a bonus, the anti-fog coating works very well as my old 3M used to fog up frequently enough to annoyingly interrupt my work. Note that it’s construction is not top tier but it continues to keep me from visiting the ER for foreign body in eye injuries. For this, I give this product, 5-Stars!

This face shield is amazing. I’ve had so many rocks hit my face, but not really because of this shield. It didn’t crack and it never fogs up. I am a picky worker and I want my equipment to work properly and this fits the bill!

Was a little concerned when I took it out of the box because it felt lite and flimsy, but after I mounted the head harness on it, pealed the plastic off the inside and outside of the face shield itself, then tried it on, I was impressed! It's lite weight so you could have it on for hours and not get tired of wearing it. Plenty of room to breath and not fog up, and not feel like your wearing a diving mask. Good clear view of everything with no distortion. I'm a little concerned that the face shield itself will scratch easy and only time will tell. That said, it'll be good to keep liquids from splashing on your face from your chin to literally the top of your head. Also be good to prevent lite debris from hit your face or getting in your eyes and nose etc if your blasting with air. I'm not sure it will stand up to hot debris sparks from a grinder and the like because the shield will probably get burn specs/pocks/spots in it. If your working on a rusty car from underneath this would be better than safety glasses to keep dirt, rust and stuff out of your eyes. I've spent $20 on things of lesser value. If your power washing things this would be perfect. I'm sure you get the idea. Plenty of uses and Highly Recommended.

Great shield, well some says this is overkill but what is overkill when safety is concern? I always gets saw dust in my eyes and I wonder will I be able to see when I get older

I bought these specifically for when I do power carvings and the best part about this shield is it doesn’t fog up at all, perfect vision every time I used it and equally important is the fact it’s super tough protection from flying chips as it happened to me on couple of occasions, very thankful I had these on. Wouldn’t hesitate in buying these again and strongly recommend for anyone who does wood turning/ power carving or woodworking in general.

I liked as it was quite comfortable to wear as well as providing better than average safety for the face and head.
