Cascade Microphones Victor - Black/Silver

This is a very good sounding mic for the money. It has a very clear high end for a ribbon mic. The only knock is that the XLR output placement on the mic body limits it's range of adjustment. It's nice on vocals and acoustic instruments, and I've even used it as a room mic on Piano and Drums.If you aren't familiar with ribbon mics, the output is very low so you have to crank up your preamp. If you have a typical USB/Firewire interface, you may be disappointed without a further boost. You'll have some static hiss and thin sound without help. An ART TubeMP is an inexpensive option but even better (clearer sounding) is the Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter.Other than that, it looks great, sounds great and has been very rugged in use. This is worth it's price.

I've bought those $100 ribbon mics in the past to mod and for the price, you really can't beat just ordering one of these Cascade mics. Having the ribbon tuned right out of the box is great. It's an extremely clean and smooth sounding mic. I've only had a chance to try it on a guitar amp and some vocals. It sounds like a ribbon mic should, warm and fat but still well balanced. Very minimal EQ'ing needs to be done. I actually like it more for a guitar amp than the Fat Head.Is it as good as a Royer? Not quite but it's also a $1000 less. I'd recommend it for any small studio, it's just a good sounding mic that does what a ribbon should and at a very affordable price. Cheers to Cascade for making a solid product!

I really like this microphone. This is my first ribbon mic. I have only recorded acoustic guitar and vocal with it, but I am very impressed with the natural sound reproduction. Just started experimenting with it... sound reproduction is very positional, I like the sound I get recording into the side with my accoustic guitar. Seems like it is very well made, and I like that Cascade techs have tensioned the ribbon, QC'd and optimized it before shipping. I have read many a review about Chinese ribbon mics not being tensioned properly. I wasn't quite sure about getting the stock transformer... I think you gain little bit more in the mids. and highs. with a cinemag or lundahl. I am using a presonus tube pre-amp without any eq, sounds better than my CAD condenser mic.

Great sound, great company, even better customer service from cascade. The yoke clip was defective and they sent a new one fast AND free of charge. Thanks cascade!
