Little Bear - Winter Tales VHS

I was introduced to Little Bear while watching Noggin on television. I disconnected to digital cable t.v. but I loved the Little Bear programs on Noggin so much that I have bought 6 Little Bear videos and I just ordered the Little Bear Winter Soltice video in February. I watched this episode on television. As a Christian I did not find this particular episode offensive. On the contrary I thought it was quite warm hearted and enchanting. In one episode of Little Bear-not on the Winter Soltice- Little Bear was very sad because his very good friend Emily and her doll Lucy had to go back to school. Mother Bear sat in the rocking chair and gently rocked Little Bear while he drank a cup of hot chocolate and a tear rolled down his face. I felt so sorry for Little Bear. In another episode- it was so touching how Little Bear tenderly took care of Mother Bear while she was sick in bed with a cold. The bottom line is I like every episode of Little Bear that I have ever seen. I have six videos already. Little Bear is polite and courteous as are his friends. His parents and grandparents are comforting and good role models. Little Bear and his family and friends have enchanting and exciting adventures. If you want your child to learn how to get along with people and just plain good family values, I would recommend any Little Bear episode.

I know we are not to comment on other reviews, but I think that some Christian parents will shy away from this video if they think it touts pagan beliefs. Of the four episodes, I think that the Winter Soltice episode rubs some parents the wrong way. I guess the creators were trying to give Little Bear fans a Christmastime story without actually calling it Christmas. I was a little disturbed by the video at first, especially after reading reviews that had pagans praising it and Christians condemning it, but after some thought, I decided that celebrating winter soltice doesn't necessarily make one a pagan. I think the Scandinavian countries have celebrated both Christmas and the winter soltice for eons. The episode does mention snow angels. How can one speak the word "angels" and be a pagan? I have to admit, though, that I don't know of too many Christian bears -- or pagan ones for that matter. Maybe Little Bear's parents just haven't yet been evangelized. On a technical note, I wish the picture quality was better. Less commercials at the beginning would be appreciated as well.

First, let me say that I think that too many people try & ready too much into "Christmas" videos these days. This video doesn't even have a Christmas title. It is about winter for goodness sakes. My husband & I watched this video with our 3 year old who loves Little Bear. I thought that it was precious. Finally a movie for kids that embraces the family & family values. It also shows that Little Bear & his friends use their imaginations to find things to do. What child, grown or otherwise, doesn't like to drop in the snow & make a snow angel every now & then? People need to lighten up & enjoy this video for what it is; a good video that shows good values & good fun. No violence, fighting, video games,or monsters,just good friends & family having fun together.

As far as I know, this is the only kids video that depicts a celebration of Winter Solstice instead of Christmas and for that reason, I highly recommend it for any parent who celebrates Winter Solstice.I also was impressed that the "snow angels" that ate the cookies from the trees turned out to be hungry animals. That may get kids thinking critically about possible alternative explanations for things, and which explanations fit best...and maybe about what is real, and what isn't. It is a refreshing change from all the tons of Santa Clause stories this time of year.In general "Little Bear" is always a nice, nonviolent cartoon for kids that centers on Little Bear's relationships with his family and friends.

As a Pagan and a fan of the Little Bear Books and TV series, i was delighted to see this on Television one day. And even happier to see avaliable on VHS. Hard pressed are we to find holiday shows that celebrate our holiday in its purity. I know that, unfortunately, some find the word Pagan frightening. And feel it's best to shy away from anything with any pagan over- or under-tones. But the fact is it's a lovely video and Winter Solstice is it's highlight in my opinion, and the celebration of a season is not going to harm anyone. (I as a Pagan and as a Former Child still love to watch A Charlie Brown Christmas.)

One of our favorites. We have several Little Bear tapes and the grandchildren & I like all of them. Little Bear has gentle good stories - nothing scary, no bad language, shows a family & friends who love and care for each other. I highly recommend Little Bear.

Love them all, but this is one of our favorites. You will not outgrow Little Bear.

I have kids ages 6 & 3 and they both love Little Bear!We can always count on Little Bear shows having a wholesome message.Little Bear is never frightening or inappropriate in any way.Our tape is nearly worn out from use! A great one for the collection!
