Get What You Pay For - spend a little more $$$
There are some positives and one significant negative - which for my purpose makes it impossible to use. Pointedly, the screw that secures the stand to the aluminum clamp loosens whenever the stand is swiveled around- if the screw is not tightened regularly after just couple of time swiveling the stand in a circular motion you will find that the whole stand will crash down onto your work surface. Needless to say, this is to risky and can potentially cause significant damage to your camera and/or your work surface. Perhaps there is a way to hack a solution but be mindful that the quality is, shall we say, low-end consumer quality - but this may not be an issue as the quality is not the issue as much as the failure point of the stand to clamp attachment.Cons1) Low quality;2) Aluminum clamp attachment to Suspension Scissor Stand comes loose when swiveling the suspension arm. Requires constant tightening to avoid the whole stand crashing down.3) constant swiveling will require routine tightening of the screw attaching the stand to the clamp;4) Could be costly and/or damaging if you fail to tighten the screw on a regular basis - this alone is the reason I have decided to send this back for a refund. If you can find a way to solve this issue then you have yourself a low cost webcam scissor tripod stand that will not take up any space on your work surface.Pros:1) Low cost;2) Great for for Webcams - provides 1/4 inch tripod attachment typical on cameras/webcams;3) Great space-saver (if you can overcome its flaw(s).Is anything sturdier necessary ? No! However, this risk of having your camera crash down on your work surface can be costly!

It works...just not super great.
I first mounted a camera to it and then used an adapter for one of my microphones. The problem is that it doesn't really stay tight and almost every day or two I find myself hand tightening it back down so it isn't so wobbly. I mean it works and it's not a bad deal for it but it's not very sturdy and is definitely something I have had to fiddle with quite a bit.

Measure Twice, Buy Once
I have an AmazonBasics dual monitor stand with two 24" ViewSonic monitors on a 6' Lifetime folding table. The desktop clamp (they call it a "clip") could just barely open for the 2" thickness of the plastic top Lifetime table. But then I realized that when clamped to the table, the arm was not tall enough to reach over the elevated dual monitors. (my bad, I should have leveraged the provided dimensions and measured my application first). However, I was able to make it work by instead clamping it to one of the arms of the dual monitor stand. I can't give it five stars because the small male rod that slides into the female hole of the clamp has too much play (see photo). When tightening the knurled knob, it causes the arm to tilt a couple of degrees off center. But as I've grown older, I've learned that this annoying tilt will help me let go of my OCD tendencies.

Very Disappointed
I found this item to be a great disappointment and plan to return it (something I have almost never done with an Amazon purchase). I thought this unit would make positioning my camera much quicker and easier, but I'm going back to using the gooseneck mount.1. It is very hard to attach the camera. It does not have a screw that can be rotated to thread into the camera; instead, the camera has to be turned onto the mounting screw. My camera was already wired into the equipment, so twisting it onto the mount built up twists in the USB cable.2. The camera mounting rod does not rotate, making it more difficult to rotate the camera. (This is somewhat manageable, because one can back off the tightener on the mount to loosen the camera, rotate the camera, and then retighten it.)3. Similarly, it is not easy to rotate the arm. One has to loosen the screw at the base, rotate the arm, and them tighten the screw again.4. The biggest problem for me is that the screw for mounting the base to the table is located too close to the edge, rather than being centered along the top flange. I could not get the unit to clamp securely to my table, which has a rounded edge.

Up your Zoom Game
This product allowed me to get the height and angle for my webcam that I prefer. What is the most flattering webcam angle? For optimal appearance, the camera should be placed just above your eye-level and angled slightly downward. Mounting the camera on your monitor will definitely not do this for you in all cases, this arm helps with that. You do want to be sure that you have a stand or the table you are going to use has a 1-3" top that you can clamp on to. Be sure to review the compatible web cameras to be sure the mount will work.

The screw at the base doesn't tighten.
Like others have stated the problem I have is that the screw at the base doesn't properly tighten the arm so it just kind of rotates freely and has a little bit of wobble to it. This ends up being fine if you have a strong desk and don't touch it when in use but still annoying because it doesn't feel sturdy despite the mostly metal construction.Another thing I wanted to note is the small arm that positions the webcam can only move up or down so if you're like me and needed to point the camera in a unique way you would have to buy a ball mount adapter or go with something else. This isn't really a fault of the manufacturer/seller although I wish they would have included one, it's my fault for not looking more closely at it before buying.

Not bad for the price
This arm works well enough for the price. It's not super tall so I wouldn't expect it to clear a tall/large monitor if it's mounted behind it. The middle hinge also can bind if you move both sections of the arm too fast instead of pivoting cleanly so you should try to move it more deliberately and adjust each section individually if possible. As long as you keep this stuff in mind and you just need a basic arm to get a camera positioned and won't be moving it a lot it works well enough. If you do need a lot of height clearance or want something you can move all over the place quickly then you're probably better off spending the extra cash for a Rode arm.

Great multipurpose stand
This is a great little scissor arm for all kinds of light tasks: I have a few and I mount things like- Shure SM58 microphone on a Shure shock mount- Logitech C920- Compact 280-led video panel lightsIn a limited (with close supervision!), I've mounted a Sony RX10 camera for some overhead shots but I would say that's starting to get outside of the weight capacity of this stand (especially extended). This stand comes with an integrated 1/4-20 screw on the end so you can directly mount a lot of things straight ouf the box. You can take it one step further by adding a compact ball head to [a] give you quick release ability and [b] more fine control over orientationI highly reccomend this - it's cheap enough that it's worth the try and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Great scissor arm for iPhone or small webcams
I purchased this arm for my iPhone even though it advertises use for webcams. The ¼” screw thread will fit a standard ball head (most ball heads with a 3/8 thread have an adapter for the ¼” but those kinds would most likely be too heavy anyway...?) It does not come with a webcam mount. It is just the arm that you receive. That is okay with me because a webcam mount would have just gone to waste with me. The arm is study and gives me a lot of movement when shooting video from different angles. I don’t tighten the base much with the screw as it would dent the tube but it doesn’t move much anyway because my desk is level. THE ONLY DOWNSIDE is that the tightening screw where the two arms come together is in an annoying spot as it gets in the way of the spring unless the arm is always open. It seems they are all made this way though so I am sticking with the annoyance as it is small and for the price I can deal. So all in all a great purchase.

Love this stand
Arrived overnight and straight out of the box I set up the clamp on my desk (at the side), attached my Logi 920S camera to the mount and was immediately able to vary the height, and importantly, swing the camera (and assembly) out of the way for when I am not on Zoom. I hadn't expected this, but it's a great help. This is facilitated by a swiveling facility you drop the frame into. You can tighten this up to make it remain in one orientation, or, as I have done, leave it untightened to swing the camera into position and out of the way as needed.Very pleased with this product, hence the rating.

Bad luck
The media could not be loaded. Yours might be good but mine isn't. Manufacturer defects do exist and that's exactly what I got. one of the arms was either assembled incorrectly or it's just entirely defective. When I move the arms they get stuck because of contact between two of the them. For me to fully open it I ended up having to force it to open damaging the rubber endcaps because of the lack of space between the two arms. not worth sending it back I made it work for what I needed it for...UPDATE: the seller did get back to me and offered to replace it. But I really can't be bothered. Good customer service though.

This is one SOLIDLY made tool!
I am so happy with this, and am glad I overlooked any negative feedback I read and went ahead and purchased it. It is very solid, well made, and my phone (along with an attachment to hold my phone) is not too heavy so doesn't cause the arm to droop. I can use it at any angle perfectly. I have it attached to my kitchen table and love that it is so easy to remove, adjust, etc. Now I'm waiting for a ring lamp to arrive so I don't have to drain my phone battery with the flash running. Very useful purchase!
