Great Sashiko Book
The book explains that different patterns, what tracing paper to use, the tools, needle, thread, etc. It is fool proof with all the instructions. The templates are in the back and you need to trace them. Awesome book and can't wait to get started.

Great info. Clear instructions.
I'm very new to sashiko, although I'm an experienced needle-worker. This book offers well organized and well thought out information and instruction. Between this book and Susan Briscoe's Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook, I feel like I have what I need to thoroughly explore the art of Sashiko.

One of the best books available on Sashiko
This is one of the best books on traditional Sashiko from a Japanese author. It give you a bit of history, good tutorials and lots of patterns to copy to make stencils. I was hoping that there would be real hard stencils to use, but you have to use carbon tracing paper, to transfer the patterns onto the fabric. I purchased this book based on the good reviews I read and they were spot on. I went to my local library hoping to find a book or two on traditional Sashiko and it's history but they had none. I would have given this book at least 4 1/2 🌟 or 5 if it came with actual stencils.

Beautiful book with a lot of information.
I was surprised to see the amount of information in the book. It was organized and laid out. I recommend this book, especially for the price.

A very well written and organized book.
I've been wanted to expand beyond the starter kits I've been buying and this seemed like a good place to start. I was looking at Japanese language sashiko books online, before this, but they were intimidating. I do have English language books but they were written by white authors and filtered through the caucasian cultural lens, and that isn't quite the approach that I wanted honestly, with all the guffaw about slow fashion and the like. Which isn't bad, but not the focus I want. This is purely a sashiko stitch and pattern book, from Japan vogue. It does seemed to be a translation of another book I was looking at of Japanese sashiko stitches and patterns that is found readily online. It is clearly illustrated, easy to follow, and the intuitively organized.I have been using this book to make my own sashiko cloths and hope to use the instructions to combine patterns and make other functional pieces for my home. I would recommend this book to anyone just starting out who doesn't have any sashiko stitch books. If you've already begun a collection you will probably already have these in your collection.
