## Questions & Answers

**Q: I noticed that many of the Loctite products were translucent yellow. Is this product clear? I need a clear glue!**
A: REALLY fresh material will be vary pale yellow, as the hardener ages open or closed container it will yellow more. If you are looking for optically clear resin/hardener, IMHO, you will best be served with a casting quality resin, these are typically slower cure (12 hours) and larger volumes and you have choices of Epoxy, Urethanes and others. Amazon has many of these as do specialty houses like TAP Plastics.

**Q: Whats the Temp range?**
A: The correct answer is under Service Temperature in the data sheet: -9°F(-23°C) to 120°F (49°C) Long term exposure, -9°F(-23°C) to 302°F (150°C) Short term exposure.
The other answers mentioning "application" temp are confusing application as the process of applying the epoxy with application as the purpose of using the glue.

**Q: Will this epoxy bond leather and sterling silver with strength? I need a clear or black epoxy for glueing bracelets that hold heavy glass beads.**
A: Hi. I'm not an expert but as a sculptor (small size) I do use various glues. For sure whatever you choose, you should test first. Use a TSP substitute (no fumes) or whatever solvent is best to clean the silver and glass well. When bonded and dried, wiggle your bond with strength and see how it holds. The silver is what concerns me because it is smooth and glue best needs to "grip." Can you abrade/scratch the area of silver that will be glued? An irregular surface will help whatever glue you use to get a good grip because it increases the.surface area of the glue to contact. I would try a small file, make it as rough as the area will allow without showing (obviously very small). The glues and epoxies I have used will sometimes separate from a very smooth surface (maybe later, which will be embarrassing) if the metal (glass) was not completely free of oil from your fingers, tarnish, etc. and was too slick. An epoxy that I think will prove superior is J-B Kwik, available everywhere. They make a stronger version which you should not need and another product to work with wood, which might be worth a test given your use of leather. It is lighter when it dries; the J-B Kwik is almost black. You need to test, determine the set time, beware of drips (more of a concern with the Loctiite) when you first apply. The J-B Kwik, a 2 part epoxy, is a little more manageable (I use the stick part of Q-Tips with the cotton ends cut off or toothpicks to apply the cement) and you will quickly get a sense of its flow characteristics as it hardens/sets--(pretty short, a few minutes--and see if it stains your leather. I am more concerned with the Loctite than the J-B Kwick re staining the leather since the Loctite is more liquid and may penetrate. Mix small quantities as you use any quick setting epoxy. You can easily wipe small excess from the silver/glass while the J-B is liquid and after it is dry, you can file or cut it for shape (use the cotton swabs to remove excess). I suspect once it is on the leather you will not be able to remove it, so be careful. The same concern as to slickness applies to the glass. You might get by with a tiny bead of J-B Kwik (or the Loctite), applying it when the setting process gives you just the amount of flow and adhesion you want. Don't forget to test thoroughly first since once you develop a system you can use it throughout your process with confidence and it will save mucho time. Good luck!

**Q: What is the minimum air temperature for applying this epoxy? (My shop temp. is about 50 F. now; will it cure?) Thanks**
A: **From the LOCTITE Site - Technical Data Sheet**
Application Temperature: 39°F (4°C) to 95°F (35°C)
Cure time is dependent upon temperature, humidity and amount of product used.
