ParaGuard is the only fish and filter safe aldehyde based (10% by weight) parasite control product available. Unlike highly toxic and difficult to use formalin based medications, ParaGuard contains no formaldehyde or methanol and will not alter pH. ParaGuard employs a proprietary, synergistic blend of aldehydes, malachite green, and fish protective polymers that effectively and efficiently eradicates many ectoparasites on fish (e.g. ich, etc.) and external fungal/bacterial/viral lesions (e.g., fin rot). It is particularly useful in hospital and receiving tanks for new fish and whenever new fish are introduced to a community tank. For use in freshwater or marine. ParaGuard is recommended for the treatment of certain diseases in marine and freshwater fish only. It IS NOT recommended for treating any style aquarium containing invertebrates, corals, crustaceans, or elasmobranchs (sharks and rays).

Would probably cure the plague! Safe, reliable
Who says Vets don't make house calls! Look I have been keeping tanks for 30 years and the 1 thing I can tell you is water changes, good quality food and routine tank maintenance are the best medication for anyone's tank! With that said from time to time you will need a little extra help. The people at Seachem gives you Paraguard! Hands down the best 100 safe for all fish. Anytime I have a new fish or one of mine get injured I treat them with Paraguard. This stuff rock's! Helps promote faster healing.Again water changes are and should be the #1 thing you try first prior to using any medication!

Seal arrived open
Not sure what I got. The seal was open, and the Paraguard was an odd consistency. Ive used it before and the one I got was not normal. But my Orandas were suffering and I had no choice. I had to double the dose in a 5g bucket for a month to see any result. In the end, out of 5 goldfish, 2 survived. Cant say it was the Paraguard , or the aquarium salt/water changes, that got rid of the ick. For the price though, its not worth it. Id should have just let them all die, and buy 5+ new ones for the cost.

Good Anti-Parasite Weapon BUT PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE PURCHASE. (UPDATED)
I am not sure how to rate ParaGuard. I have seen good and very bad results with it, and I test out product thoroughly before I review them.First of all, this size container of ParaGuard arrived in horrible shape. There was absolutely no packing in the box and there was a leak in the container, leaving my box and floor covered in blue liquid. I went through no end of trouble on the phone with customer service trying to get help. I hung up and called back after hours of waiting and weird responses on how they were going to deal with this. Finally I got another bottle sent out as it should have been right away.IN THE TANKIf you use this in the tank, follow directions CAREFULLY. If you have a 29 gallon tank and have 1/10 if the space taken up with gravel, then remove 3 gallons from your water volume. Then if you have several ornaments and other *furniture*, count that as a few gallons as well. That means you will be treating as if you have only about 20 gallons of water- NOT the full 29.Another thing you need to keep in mind- this product is supposed to be for long term use. That means 8 weeks. There will be a variety of rebirth of parasites over and over, so you have to be patient. It does seem to work, but very gradually. This is not a quick fix.It will not affect your filters if you remember to remove your charcoal or Purigen from your filters first.AS A DIPI can not say this enough- THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR MANY FISH AS A DIP. If you are getting new fish, you have to keep in mind that your store you purchase from might be medicating the fish in the store. FIND OUT WHEN. If you put fish in a dip with yet another medication- you are poisoning your fish.I have had good and horrible results with using this as a dip first. Some fish it kills instantly. Others it will look fine and then they will die in the tank. I have found out when they use medicine in the tanks, and still I lost some fish with this product.I have found that this is way too difficult to use as a dip and caused way too many deaths to make it worth using as a dip. I lost quite a few tetras and glofish with this as a dip, so please be extremely cautious.FINAL COMMENTSWhen in the tank, I still have reservations about this on long term, but it did help with tanks that were having problems with parasites over and over. Some fish do still seem to not handle it well, so use caution.I like this product, but only in the tank, not the dip. I lost some great fish by using this as a dip. I am very experienced with fish and believe in using as few chemical means as possible when dealing with problems. There is also a problem with shipping this container (2L) of this item. Amazon seems to not have figured it out that it needs packaging to ship it so it could very well leak.UPDATE 1-2017I have continued to use Paraguard with a variety of fish in tank only. I no longer use it as a dip since I wrote this review. The only time I will use Paraguard is when there is a problem that is too severe for Melafix or Pimafix to address. I also try to do a lot of water changes first prior to using Paraguard.I have had success with rainbow fish and other freshwater fish who had a lot of parasites, or problems on their scales and I knew that the problem was too intense for gentle means of treatment and so far if following directions for the tanks, I have had good results. I do not use it more than the period outlined in this review. I take a break from it and then start over.Water changes should be done only after product is in the tank for 24 hours or you are wasting this medicine. It cycles out after about 24 hours, which is why you need to add it daily.

Not safe for some fish, and customer service gives bad advice
I contacted Seachem prior to using this product. I was told it was safe with scaleless fish (in my case a puffer and eel) if I took 3 days to achieve the full dose. I spread it out over 4 days to make sure, and 48 hours later my black Solomon Islands dogface puffer, which I had for over 3 years, was dead. After reading about this product on several saltwater forums I would not recommend it for any aquarium use. Seachem is vague about the ingredients and how it works.

AmaZing for flukes
My tank had a case of skin/Gill flukes. I tried prazipro, general cure and nothing worked. Until now, I used this product for 30 days and now my tank is fluke free. My fish have been itching for months now. Thank you

Great stuff! Should ALWAYS have on hand.
I use this any time any of my fish start showing stress. I have shrimp, loaches, mollies, platys, plecos, angelfish, and eels. This has never killed anything, including my plants. I swear by this stuff. It works great if you follow the directions. I swear by Seachems products. They are more expensive than the other brands but you get what you pay for and I love my aquatic pets!

Cured Discus Fish!
I made a large order of discus and had them all get sick with ick from one infected fish. I mixed Seachem Focus , Seachem Metroplex, and Seachem Garlic Guard in with their food while treating with SeaChem Paraguard. Cured everything right up. I will be a Seachem fan for life!
