Poor quality
Our wooden coffee table is about 126" in circumference. This shield fits very snug and i don't have to worry about my 9 month old pulling it off. The shield is very tall and covers the entire 6" edge of our table. It did have a smell at first but quickly disapated. Does look a bit awkward at first but we got over that pretty fast.Update 8/9/2013: Dropped rating from five stars. I like to put my feet up on the table and liked the peace of mind of having the protector to prevent damage to the wood. In the places where I put my feet or brush up against the table the vinyl coating has started separating from the fabric and peeling off in little chunks. My 15 month old is always bringing me the pieces. I am not happy with the quality anymore.

Great for avoiding bruises - for baby and for parents!
Got this to protect our baby from the sharp corners of our coffee table. I thought that this would work much better than the other products that stick on with tape. It's nice and thick and fits around it quite snug so I'm not worried that she'll put it off. We didn't have any problems with smell like other reviewers mention. She does try to chew on it from time to time and I focus her attention elsewhere. It's not an attractive addition to your furniture, by any means, but with a baby in the house are you really planning to have a room that could be featured in Better Homes and Gardens?I feel much better having this secure shield in place; it has done its job by preventing many accidental scrapes and falls on sharp edges. As an added bonus, I find that I have fewer bruises on my legs from running into the coffee table, too!

Works so well, you forget about how ugly it is
When my wife opened the box and we put it on our table, I couldn't stop commenting on how ugly it was. We have the black one and it makes our coffee table look like some kind of bizarre bumper pool equipment. To further color my initial opinion, it had a petroleum sort of smell to it. So, as you can easily imagine, I was predisposed not to like it, but I was determined to give it a shot. However, it only took one fall from our son before I was fully on board. This thing just plain works... and works well. When it comes to the safety of your child, you'll take function over form any day. I hardly even see it now, I've become so used to it. The smell dissipated as it aired out.Time and time again, it has taken what would have been a nasty fall and turned it into a non-event. I couldn't be more thrilled.

only works on certain shapes
the padding itself is quite thick and impressive. less impressive was the fact that it works pretty badly on our rectangular coffee table. the short sides stayed up, but the long edges just kind of flopped around. there is probably a reason that the picture only shows one small corner of a square table. when we put it on an octagon table in another room, it worked great. probably the reason why the round table in the picture has a lot more showing.

Absolutely shorter than advertised
This would not fit a table that I had pre-measured to be 100". So we took the item, stretched it out as far as we could and measured the length. It came out to a little over 40", multiplying this by 2 means that this item is only 85". I do not know who came up with the length, but they clearly do not know how to measure. A total waste of time and effort.

Worked on 40"x26" coffee table
I don't think anyone is going to love the way this thing looks, but it works. It comes with foam inserts to put around the corners under the elastic cover. Make sure you use them, as they provide necessary protection on the corners. Definitely saved a couple bonks, or at least mitigated them. I would recommend to anyone with smaller tables.

Order the correct size!
Please note that you will need to order the range your table falls in the MIDDLE of. So if you order the 60" - 140", your table circumference should be about 100". That is the manufacturer recommendation. If it's near the upper end, you may or may not be able to get it on. I wasn't able to, so I had to return mine.Other than that, it seems like it would be a good product for protecting edges. It's like pulling a padded rubber band around your table.

Effective
It is, as everyone has said...not the most attractive item in the house. However, we have an oval coffee table and it went on fairly easily. I was prepared to use a lot of swear words after reading other reviews. But they were unnecessary. And, it does what it's supposed to, protect my baby's head when he falls over and hits his head on the table on the way down. No complaints here.
