Casa Maria 8.5 Inch Polished Stone Mortar and Pestle, black

Works great. It is actually bigger than I thought I was going to need, so I guess maybe I'll have to start making double recipes of guacamole (my recipe uses two avacados, and it only fills a fraction of the bowl). It looks nice on the countertop and works as a attractive serving bowl as well. It's super big and heavy, so it isn't going to move around on your countertop-- just don't drop it, cause it would definitely damage your floors (or your foot).My only problem with it is that mine seems to be made from two different pieces of granite; the pestle is made from dark-colored granite like in the picture, but the main bowl is made from a lighter, more grayish granite. It peeves me that the two pieces are mismatched like this!

VERY substantial and heavy. Much heavier and larger than I expected. I have used lots of rice and rock salt seasoning it because I dont want to make a mistake. I have never used one of these before and feel like I should up my game here.

I am a herbalist and own a mortar and pestle that is brass but really wanted a stone one. I did lots of research before choosing the Casa Maria one. It is beautiful and sits on my countertop. The weight of over 14 pounds and the flat bottom means it does not move when grinding. The rough inside makes it easier to grind your herbs, spices, whatever. I believe leverage would be better and easier to grind had the manufacturer made the pestle longer. To me this is the best set on the market at any price.

I bought this for my husband because he wanted a large bowl and a rough interior surface for hard spices. This fits those requirements. Things to note: It is heavy. Really heavy. You will want to keep it lower in your cabinet. Secondly, it has to be washed by hand as the interior is porous. So you may want to use this for certain items and not for others. But it is a quality set and a great gift.

I was searching and searching for the perfect "for our family" mortal and pestle. I wanted one to make big batches of guacamole in. This item is higher priced than most models but the price is well supported. Great big size, deep bowl and made with such high quality material. It's so beautiful to look at, I keep it out on our kitchen island. Very satisfied with this purchase.

This is an incredibly lovely and substantial mortar and pestle. We have a small one which we use to grind spices but needed a larger one for making pastes, rubs, guacamole etc. This is perfect. The outside is nicely polished while the inside is nicely rough as it should be. It weighs over 14lbs. A very attractive functional item at an excellent price.

Good and heavy. I use this for curry paste and other herbs. I recommend putting a felt bottom on it, or putting it on top of a towel or potholder when you use it so you don't scratch your counter/table.

This Stone Mortar & Pestle is exactly what we expected to receive. Great for the kitchen, a hansom piece that we leave out on the counter top.The order arrived several days earlier than expected which is what we needed since we had guest coming to stay with us for the Labor Day weekend.Thank you.
