It is easy and quick to put in and take it out
I bought this rod holder early this summer. I use it every week. It stays in the back of my truck most of the time. Not because it is hard to take out or install. It stays there because I use it all the time! It is easy and quick to put in and take it out. It has survived a lot of rain, highway speeds, and country road speeds with all five of the holders with rods in them. It is sturdy and well made. I live and fish near salt water and there is no rust or corrosion on the holder. I love that I didn't have to drill any holes in my truck to use it. On the occasion that I do take it out, it fits inside the cab of my truck. The holder comes unassembled but it is easy to put together. You can space the individual holders to fit your needs. It's a little pricy, but in the long run you wont have any rust problems from any holes you would have to fix in the future. I have had a lot of good comments from my fellow fishermen. Hope this review helps. Take a kid fishing!

Mush stronger than initially thought.
Wish this was available 6 years ago when I used PVC piping to custom build a holder for my Honda Ridgeline. Great fit. I was initially concerned about the size of the aluminum cross-bar - I found that going down the highway at 65 MPH creates significant drag and stress on the surf rods sticking up, even at an angle in the bed of the truck. With the weight of the ratchet bar/tube inside of the cross bar tube, there is significant strength for the wind stresses on the rods in their holders. While I surf fish often down on the outer banks of NC, I didn't want a permanently mounted "rig" on the front or rear of my vehicle. This simple option allows me to have an easy, workable solution for my surf fishing trips, while keeping the usefulness of the vehicle in other times.

Over and above expectations!
Used this for 4 surf rods 7'-12' on the drive on beaches of NC and it has held up amazingly. Not only did it hold tight during the miles of driving on raw unpacked sand but it was easy to move from one truck to another when we needed the truck for a supply run. Takes no room to store and you can set it up in a few configurations. Overall it's exceeded my expectations and is easily the best drop in rod holder I've seen to date.

Perfect Rod Holder for Short Bed Truck
Rods hanging out the side or back of your truck bed are vulnerable to damage. This holder keeps your rods out of harms way from vehicles passing by, especially in parking lots. I just installed mine and primarily use it with surf rods over 13 feet. The rod holders are adjustable and pivot up or down to position your rods as needed. This holder has solved my problem of keeping my rods and reels save. I recommend this for those who take good care of their equipment.

Decent product
I do like the product but had issues with rod holders swiveling because it's not on a fixed pole,,,once portarod is installed in trucked I use a ratchet strap on bottom of rod holder to keep fishing rods from hitting back of tailgate

THE PORTAROD
It It is a great idea but needs to make some improvement on it, If you're going to use it for light tackle it maybe could work, but if you are going to put on it something like a big penn reel something like that it will be a problem. They should work in the support system of this thing. Anyway I will recommend to buy it if you need something like that, put it on your truck and find the way to keep it in the right position it is not easy but it is possible.

Nicely designed product, but not happy
Liked the idea of having a portable rod rack for the back of my truck for surf fishing, but was not happy with the outcome. Assembled the holders, and attached it to the back of my Tundra. Angled the holders the way I wanted them for my rods, and noticed that I could rotate the pipe by hand. I put three of my rods in, and found that you could easily rotate the pipe back and forth. There is no way to lock the cross bar in place.Might be a good idea for light inshore rods, but not for heavier surf rods.
