I love this paper. For those mad 4 tablets weren’t included this is premium paper. Try practicing calligraphy on any other paper and see how you enjoy the process. You won’t. Also the lines appear like French Ruled but the grids are a tad smaller which is fine for me since I write smaller anyway.

The quality is expected from a reputable house of paper. The construction is just mediocre. The here is ok. One book was damaged. I took a closer look of pages. There seem to be quite a few cosmetic blemishes on random pages. My guess is that these books may be manufacturer's rejects. Only the sellers know. Hey, if I buy enough and return the defective ones, it would still be a good purchase. Hehehe 😇😎 Hey, but if one takes into the consideration of the total area of paper she is buying, this is a Super Deal, if you don't mind sub-par packaging. Using the same order page with different sizes and sheets. I did calculations of total areas. This book, (29x23)mm x 50 sheets, came out the lowest price. 11/03/20: I just ordered 2 more. There has been a definite improvement in packaging and the description is a little more clarifying. Each booklet I received has own plastic wrap to keep out moisture. After buying different expensive brands, I went back to these CF notebooks for value. The writing area x number pages= best value. The notebook may look cheap to some but the quality of paper is still undeniable. The ink character difference between front and back pages or vice versa is still there but then I find this phenomenon exists on other brands too. In the end, I can tolerate this in exchange for the excellent value and yield.

Super paper and excellent spiral notebook. First, the paper is smooth - if you're like I was until recently and never paid attention to paper you write on - and you write a lot or enjoy writing, try Clairefontaine notebooks or stationary. Do try their paper. Smooth. No bleed-through. No show-through. I keep thinking of reasons to write - it's that nice. (Fountain pen friendly, too) Second, the spiral bound notebook itself is the same really high quality as the paper. I had my doubts so I ordered one. Just one. I'm not a "verified purchaser" and have no connections with the seller or Clairefontaine. I'm blown away by how well this notebook is made! It's not stiff or uncomfortable to carry - just the opposite. Somehow Clairefontaine figured out how to make an attractive, well-designed, easy-carry spiral notebook that won't come apart and won't get hung on everything you're wearing and carrying. Especially for college students or adults wanting a spiral-bound notebook.

The paper in this notebook is exceptional, especially for fountain pen and gel pen use. It is a super-smooth coated paper that resists bleed-through and ghosting like crazy. Writing with a medium nib fountain pen with wet ink is like a religious experience. The reason I don't give it 5 stars is because this review is of the notebook as a whole, and not just the paper. I have four main beefs with these Clairefontaine notebooks that prevent me from giving 5 stars, despite the luscious paper: 1) The prominent vertical red line along the left margin. I use notebooks for journaling, planning, listing, notating, and a various number of other uses, NONE of which require a blazing red line to be running down the entire left side of the page. When using the notebook as a journal the line simply looks ridiculous. I can't help but think I am being subliminally guided to write only to the right side of the line, in order to make me purchase more paper for the same amount of writing. I would never use this paper to write someone a letter, again due to the line. It's "school-ish". 2) The lack of micro-perforations. If you want to remove a page from the notebook you have to rip it out and deal with a horror show of niblets along the edge of the page. I would NEVER use this notebook if I thought I would need to remove a page for anything other than to throw it away. Other notebooks I use by competitors (Maruman Mnemosyne and Rhodia) have micro-perforations that allow pages to removed ultra cleanly. One thing I CAN give Clairefontaine credit for is that if you rip the page out carefully the nibs stay attached to the paper instead of falling out on the table or floor. This is true of the Mnemosyne and Rhodia as well. 3) The lack of color choice. These pads ship, wherever I have seen them sold, in one of four colors that you don't get to choose. I got lucky (in my opinion) and got blue. But the idea that you can't specify a color seems crazy to me, especially at this price. What if you want to classify notebooks per subject? Or by person in a group? Or by any number of things where color could use to coordinate things? Or maybe you just hate (insert color here) Nope - you will take what they give you. 4) The 50 sheet quantity. The Mnemosyne 199 has 70 sheets, and the Rhodia A4 notebook has 80. I think even those would be nicer with more pages. The 50 sheets of the Clairefontaine is really minimal. I think this is mainly a European and Japanese thing to have fewer pages per notebook. In any event, 50 seems too little. I suppose, given that the covers are made of thin cardboard and not thick plastic like with the Mnemosyne, a notebook with more pages might end up wearing out the covers before the pages were all used. So where does this leave us? With a notebook that, were you not to feel or use the paper, but only look at the covers, page quantity and format, you might be willing to pay $2.00 for, tops. But then you feel and use the paper itself and are suddenly seriously considering paying FOUR TIMES that for the same amount of sheets. If you are anything like me, and love pens and paper, you will probably love using this paper. However, if so, do yourself a favor and give the Mnemosyne 199 notebook a look. It has similarly beautiful paper without goofy vertical lines, with micro-perforations, ultra durable covers and even your choice of color (black or black... lol). Of course, you will pay more for it. However, I did the math and considering that the Mnemosyne has 7mm ruling instead of 8mm, and that there is slightly more room per page, on an line-inch basis, you effectively only pay about 10.7% more for the premium features of the Mnemosyne. Note, though, that the Mnemosyne paper is off white, not bright white like the Clairfontaine. To me, the Clairfontaine looks super clean and crisp, and the Mnemosyne looks more understated, archival, and classy. Also, I am not a representative of Mnemosyne nor do I have an interest in that company. I'm just a fountain pen geek that has been looking for the PERFECT notebook, and have done a lot of thinking on it. I should probably mention that the Rhodia I also mentioned is probably my second favorite notebook in terms of function, although in my opinion the paper isn't quite as luxurious as the Clairfontaine or Mnemosyne.

Extremely smooth paper, very feather resistant. Great for even the wettest of fountain pens. Just a shame these notebooks are so expensive.

If you’re reading this, you’re likely well aware of the quality of CF already. Writes perfectly with fountain pens. I had no problems with damage / humid paper from this seller.

Excellent for fountain pens.

I just received the two notebooks I bought and had planned to wrap them up and give them as part of a present to my fountain pen-loving and calligrapher friend. However, they came to me mangled at the corners, spiral binding bent in multiple places and wrinkles and creases not only on the cover but a majority of the paper on the blue notebook. These notebooks, although probably new, now looked sad and pretty much ungiftable. Highly disappointed with how it arrived and now I have to scramble to find something comparable by this weekend. Seriously, why would anyone be selling paper that's clearly much more expensive than the average notebook and then sell them all wrinkled. Aside from the seller, Clairefontaine paper and French-ruled paper are my friend's favorite so this review is not any shortcomings of the product.

I know it's weird to get excited over a notebook, but I absolutely love Clairefontaine! The paper is so silky smooth - if you run your fingers over the page you can't feel any roughness or fibres. The ink doesn't streak, bleed or run, neither does it go through the page onto the other side. It's heavy, good quality paper that is so wonderful I almost don't want to spoil it by writing on it! Yes, it's more expensive than other brands, but you really do get what you pay for with this (and no, I don't work for Clairefontaine!!).

I had ordered this notebook along with a Rhodia spiral notebook to see what all the fuss is about. This notebook is phenomenal! It is the most fountain friendly paper I’ve ever written on. The experience is great. There’s no bleed through, no feathering. It shades too! It’s a smooth paper definitely worth every penny. It’s better than the Rhodia in terms of smoothness, but the Rhodia shades better. Rhodia pads also have a slightly 5% more tooth/grain/feedback, so personal preference may vary.
