Surprisingly Exhaustive
What started as an average read, turned into something far more illuminating and enjoyable. Though much of the focus isn't on AI (as expected), the authors go deep on why software is changing the very fabric of the modern business. In this way, AI is only part of the discussion. More imperative to the argument is the nature of a digital operating model...and the blurring of industry boundaries this dictates. Well worth a read. The authors have definitely done their homework!

Good - but skipped over some of the more dry bits
I enjoyed this professional development book as it combined the success of modern tech giants and their use of AI.At times the chapters were a bit wordy. However, the diagrams and formatting allowed those sections not speaking to you to be skipped.

5 star book!
I have read this book and I highly recommend it. One of the best books I have read on the opportunities offered by digital transformation and AI.It provides a very thoughtful overview of how AI has changed the way the company can create and capture value. Since the beginning the book is full of real life example that helps understand the underlying theories such as the chapter focused on Ant Financial.I particularly like the chapter on AI factory where the authors define AI factory made by: i) data pipeline, ii) algorithm development, iii) experimentation, iv) software infrastructure. The reality is that AI should not be something only for firms in the tech space but for all the firms. The book has made me even more aware of the potential that data can have also for industries not in the tech space. In addition, the chapter on strategic network analysis is very interesting as well. It really helps to understand with real life example (in the book Uber example) how firms can strengthen or weaken value creation and capture in networks. It is a 5 star!

Competing in the age of AI
Some takeaways from reading the book: On page 53 I read that increasingly, many processes previously done by people are digitized. It was interesting to read about what that means for, for example, management. Some examples were mentioned on page 97: Managers are innovators, as they envision how digital systems will evolve over time. Managers are integrators as they work to connect disparate digital systems and identify new connections between the firm's operating model and the customers it serves. Managers are guardians, as they work to preserve the quality, reliability, security and responsibility of the digital systems they control.

A must read for organizational leaders
Since I started reading Artificial Intelligence (AI) related articles in Wall Street Journal (WSJ) for the past 90 days, it took me to the next stage of exploring books and courses. Soon I ended up ordering a dozen or more books on AI, Machine Learning (ML) and Digital Transformation books from Amazon.in. My past background has ML courses from Coursera and reading few books on ML, Deep Learning and Big Data. This is the first book I finished reading among the dozen or more books that I have collected. I am a slow reader, who enjoys cherishing the points from each chapter and thinking through how it should be applied in my situation. As an executive in public healthcare, I find this book is a must not only to me but to all managers and executives, irrespective of the industry they are in. There is no way you are going to avoid AI. Soon your company will be in a situation of do or die because of AI. Either you do Digital Transformation and adapt AI ML technologies or face a slow death of your organization. I highly recommend this book to everyone irrespective of the industry you work today. You will find your industry will go through transformation and adapt to AI in the next few years.
