Product Description Buck and the Buckaroos brought their Bakersfield Sound "uptown" to Carnegie Hall in 1966, and the result was one of the finest country music concerts on record! Includes Act Naturally; Love's Gonna Live Here; I've Got a Tiger by the Tail; Together Again , and more, even a hillbilly-fied take on the Beatles' Twist and Shout ! .com Buck Owens wasn't the first country star to headline Carnegie Hall; Ernest Tubb played the hallowed hall nearly 20 years before Buck brought his Buckaroos to New York in 1966. Owens, however, signaled the ascension of a new era of plugged-in country when he grudgingly gave in to his manager's plea that he appear at the eminent venue. (Remember, this is the guy who insisted in song that he wouldn't live in New York City "if they gave me the whole dang town.") Owens was flying high in the mid-'60s, which is demonstrated by the hit-laden repertoire found on Sundazed's expanded reissue of the original LP: "Act Naturally," "Together Again," "Cryin' Time," and "I've Got a Tiger by the Tail" are just a few of chart-busters Bakersfield's best parade before a welcoming audience. They even repay the Beatles' nod in their direction--Ringo's version of "Act Naturally"--with a caterwauling cover of "Twist and Shout." Buck, ace lead guitarist Don Rich, and the rest of the Buckaroos are in fine form throughout, mixing country weepers and twangy uptempo numbers with a good deal of goofing around. One gets the impression that, while Buck wouldn't want to settle in the Big Apple, he might not have minded taking the whole dang town back west with him. --Steven Stolder

Listening to it is like taking magic happy pills.
Awesome. Captures the excitement and energy of the audience and it sounds like they’re having the time of their lives. Buck Owens and his Buckaroos have fun too while absolutely crushing it. Might be the best live album I’ve ever heard. Definitely my favorite. Packaged perfectly by seller (SPRUCEKNOB) and received in excellent condition. Would order from (SPRUCEKNOB) again in a heartbeat.

Vintage Buck, totally classic sound, pre-TV shows.
This is vintage Buck! I grew up on classic country (quit listening in '75 when it started to get too "outlaw" or "rock" for me). Oddly, I never really cared much for Buck Owens, thinking he was too nasally or whatever. However, over the years, I've come to recognize him as a leader of the "Bakersfield sound" and really love his works... his classic works. And this is classic. It is during his heyday years. If you are into CLASSIC Buck, this is a must-have. This is well before TV days.

Buck Owens at Carnegie Hall
Buck Owens did not want to play at Carnegie Hall. He was at the top of his field in 1966 and did not think New York City had enough country fans to show up for his show. He was wrong. It was a sold out. He was at his best in the 60's and at this time still had his right hand man, Don Rich with him. Don was later killed in a motorcycle accident. If you like Buck Owens and his Buckaroos, you will enjoy this live album. They put out several other live albums but this is my favorite

BLAST FROM THE PAST
Enjoyed listening to this oldie but goodie with my mother. I ended up giving it to her and she's now riding around town listening to it in the car. Tom Brumley is one of the best steel guitarists and this is a fine recording. Highly recommend.

Buck It: Not that Impressed
Heard about this performance: folks described it as ‘seminal’; considered one of the ‘greatest live country music performances’, and ‘you must own it’ especially if you like Buck Owens. I like Buck Owens. I’m disappointed after hearing Carnegie Hall. I gave it four good, attentive listens and my conclusion is — it’s more corny country comedy shtick than music. I was really hoping to hear some searing lead guitar work by Don Rich instead we get a lot of silly banter. I don’t mind onstage banter as it lends itself to the authenticity of the performance but Buck does go on. Much of the music is medley strung together separated by jokes, skits and impromptu commentary. I suspect based on these kinds of performances is what led to his career on the TV show Hee Haw. For me the Carnegie Hall performance feels like Hee Haw.

Amazing quality
The quality of the recording is amazing. The band is on top form and Buck Is able to sing and talk with a freedom a studio does not allow. Altogether a great occasion captured on record. The packaging and accompanying booklet is as good as you get.
