Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki, Vol. 1 (light novel) (Volume 1) (Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki, 1)

Well written and unique enough to set itself a part from the RomCom crowd
I had heard this was somewhat similar to “My youth romantic comedy is wrong as I expected” (MYRC). And after having read all of it and having really enjoyed it, I didn’t know how much I’d like bottom tier tomozaki, but I wanted something similar and this was recommended. PS: I haven’t seen the Tomozaki anime so I won’t be comparing the two mediums. This was fun and interesting, I enjoyed the handful of characters “level one” introduces, they all stand out and it’s easy to differentiate them from one another even early on. I also thought that from a first person perspective, tomozaki is written very well, and it does have some similarities to MYRC. While they’re similar in some aspects, and I get the feeling that tomozaki had some inspiration from MYRC, they’re still more different than they are alike. They’re almost opposites in a sense in regards to their themes, as you continue to read this series you’ll soon understand, if you’re familiar with both that is. I had seen someone say this was just a ripoff of MYRC, but that’s just not true at all, it’s so much more than that. This holds its own on its own merit, and has been really fun to read.I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys slice of life, or even video games. I felt I could relate with Tomozaki, and I had a hard time putting this down. I was honestly hooked right away, and I read this in two sittings in one day. After finishing “level one” I bought the next five volumes, and pre-ordered level 6.5, and it hasn’t yet disappointed. Tomozaki (the main character) almost reminds me of Yashio Kaito from Robotics;Notes, maybe just not as cool at first; but it’s the video game common interest of both characters that makes it so easy for me to relate to them. I love this series, read Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki, you won’t regret it.Edit: After watching the anime, it’s not very good compared to the light novel. If you liked the anime at all, this is so much better! I’d still suggest starting from volume 1 because all of what makes this series great is cut in the anime. Tomozaki’s inner monologue is what makes this S-Tier.

Great book but it did come damaged
When I got this book part of the cover is slightly bent and Creesed. Everything else is fine but I just thought I’d say this.

Surprisingly Good
Not gonna lie, I have seen this title pop up several times and I always glance at it and think "nope". Well, this time after searching forever for anything to read and coming up empty I decided "why not" worse case I don't like it. You probably already know what happend next based on my five stars... Hate to admit but it was actually pretty good lol.The story is about a nerd... I mean "gamer" who is socially achward, shy and a loner. Surprising right?Jokes aside he needs help and help is what he gets from an unlikely place. After being told life is a game with complicated rules he decides to give it a shot. The down side is that life is more convoluted than complicated, it's a similar word but with big differences. I won't give anything away but you will get what I mean once you read this story if not guess from your own experiences. In any case this is definitely a slice of life novel series with some humor thrown in as this boy levels up to beat the game of life. Thank heavens he has a little help because he definitely needs it.This light novel is appropriate for all ages and would recommend it to anyone who wants to give it a whirl. I promise you it will be a fun kind of dizzy, not a sickly one and I hope you have as much joy as I did reading it.***Caution: Will also admit that it didn't fully pull me in till around half way through but once it did I knew I would be continuing the series.

Fantastic slice-of-life
I read a fair amount of light novels, and it is very rare to find a series in which the characters are truly dynamic. You can find tons of stories where the characters grow more powerful; a few where they become more cynical; but typically a character's core personality just doesn't shift much.Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki is one of the rare exceptions, and it's fantastic. Although you would think that a story about a gamer trying to win at the game of life would be dull or preachy, Tomozaki's quirky observations about the people around him, sympathetic awkwardness, and competitive spirit make for a wonderfully entertaining romp through a Japanese high school that simultaneously feels like every Japanese high school you've ever read about...except filled with characters who feel like people instead of glorified tropes. You really owe it to yourself to give this series a shot. At its core it's a book that embraces some of the best parts of nerd culture, acknowledges the benefits and realities of popular culture, and encourages you to plot along with Tomozaki about how to fight to learn and overcome the social dynamics around him to improve his own life.Although the cast is predominantly female, I hesitate to call this a harem. There are certainly harem elements, but again the characters all have individual motivations and the vast majority of them are simply uninterested in the main character.Highly recommended.

Play Life Like A Game
This book is half plot, half life coaching. Tomozaki makes some good progress and you can't help but root for him as you see his attitude start to change for the better. The way he's encouraged to turn his relentless, never-give-up attitude that many gamers take towards their games and refocus it onto real life was well done. The book also has some decent insights like how in games you get EXP by winning tough battles, in real life you "gain EXP" by losing those battles. It was also interesting to see how the author incorporated the effect of "the harder you try, the luckier you get." While Tomozaki fails stupendously throughout the story, his losses not only makes him more resilient to future losses, but also give him access to positive opportunities he wouldn't have had had he not failed.Overall this is an optimistic and positive story that tries to show that by changing your perspective, you can start to do things that may have once seemed impossible for you.

Bottom tier character, top tier book
Are you a lonely nerdy misfit? Do you think real life is a bad game and you pulled a poor character in a selection screen you don’t even remember? Do you lose yourself in alternate worlds like computer gaming? Then you, too, may be a protagonist in a story like this one (in your dreams)...But in *this* story, the protagonist gets a mentor in the Game of Life - and, amazingly, it’s high-spec, all-round school darling and rising star Aoi Hinami, who decides, almost on a whim, to train our hapless hero in Real Life. So this book is full of some possibly genuinely useful life advice and a huge amount of charm and good hearted ness, plus humour and just enough drama to keep you hooked throughout. It’s strong debut by Yuki Yaku and the second volume is just as good. This is a series I will definitely be following.

My first e-book purchase and I may have been converted. Couldn't put this book down, the character interactions were entertaining from start to finish.

Great read, can't wait for the rest, very nice look on people's attitudes to real life, and how they approach fitting in.
