The battery compartment is too large for the batteries and so it comes with a cheesy foam sleeve. What the metal piece is at the top I have no idea. No instructions. I thought maybe pushing it down along the side caused the overheating issue, but slipping the batteries underneath it made it so it wouldn't turn off. The vibrator is VERY LOUD and the variable speed is hard to control, it's either fast and loud or very fast and very loud. But the overheating thing makes all that moot.
