Nitty-Gritty Grammar: A Not-So-Serious Guide to Clear Communication

This little grammar book is a good refresher of the rules we learned in High School English. All the essentials are boiled down to easy examples with lots of fun but practical illustrations including cartoons. Easily mistaken word usage is covered which I found very helpful. I enjoyed reading this book and found a number of mistakes I routinely make in writing and speech. A great book for anyone.

This gets the job done for children who don’t need the extra boost of a work book. So they really can’t grumble. The content is good.

As with the previous, I like it's user-friendliness. Some topics weren't covered, but what it does cover was pretty easy to understand and it's not a huge and overwhelming book to read. My kids love the comics.

Really love this book!

This is a good guide for general guidance, but not for grammar geeks. It will be best received by elementary and high school students, as well as those who just don't want to look ignorant. The title says it all. (Minor Kindle note: Some pages are unreadable in landscape mode but are fine in portrait mode. This is probably due to the frequent tables, cartoons and special characters.)

I LOVE grammar! Ok, I may be a dork ... but this book makes it fun. It is written in a very clear, simple way -- easy to find what you're wondering about and easy to read. I bought 3 copies -- one for me, and one each for my two adult kids. They tease me about always correcting people's grammar but I want them to know the correct usage!! I would recommend this book to anyone interested in proper grammar!

I love this book! It's clear, concise, and to-the-point. No lengthy explanations, just a short "how to" for each topic. I'm using it for technical writing and editing I do both at home and at work, and I just ordered a second copy so my boss can have one in his office.

Everything I was hoping it would be. Good information told in an entertaining and enjoyable way.

いわゆる社会人学級のようなところで「英語の書き方」を教えている教師が書いた文法書である。対象者はさまざまな職業の大人である。このようなクラスを受講する人は、この言い方はイエスかノーかという割り切った答えを求めてくるので，ああも言うがこうも言うといった記述主義的なやり方は向いていない。それ故この文法書はかなり規範的で白か黒かという二者択一的である。たとえば、Like I said, Delphine wore a helmet hairdo.のようにlikeを接続詞的に用いるのは誤りである（p. 42）。本書は100頁程度の文法書なので短時間で読了できて、平均的アメリカ人の文法観を把握することができる。現実の語法と規範主義のずれを大まかに知る上では便利な書である。
