Not a chick flick --Men love it too!
One of my favorite "go to" films when I'm feeling like I need to laugh. No matter how many times I watch it, I laugh hysterically. I remember sitting in the theater viewing it for the first time with my friend, Donna, and hearing the laughter throughout the entire theater. People audibly gasping and shrieking when the funniest things happened on screen.Nancy Meyers always delivers films that people love. I was surprised to see how many films I have loved over the years that she was involved with in one way or another....The Holiday, Something's Gotta Give, What Women Want, Father of the Bride 1 and 2, Protocol, Private Benjamin. REALLY? She is a GENIUS!! (I would love to meet her one day and just talk to her for an hour--although she'd find me quite inane and boring, I'm sure!)Back to the film...pairing Alec Baldwin, Meryl Streep and Steve Martin was pure brilliance. You literally go through every possible emotion in this film. MEN LIKE IT TOO. It is NOT a chick flick!Buy it! Because after you've seen it once, you will definitely want to revisit it again. I promise!

Warmly funny, rom-com almost in the French style.
Baldwin has never really been a good dramatic actor but he's perfect in light comedy and lampoon. Paired with Meryl Streep what could go wrong? This film has just the right level of sophistication. Somewhere in the Truffaut / Woody Allen universe.Side note: this features the first cinematic portrayer of Jack Ryan and the most recent one (Baldwin and Krasinski). This is much more in Baldwin's wheel-house and he rips it out of the park.

A fan Fav
I really like this film... The lead and the supporting cast work very well together. Steve Martin as the ..potential new guy in Meryl S. life .. give's that feeling of ... he's the better over an "Ex-husband" ...who's better off with his young wife... if you follow my drift..? The moral of the story ..should you get involved "intimately" with an "Ex"...??!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo...!

Worth watching again.
I love this movie. My daughter and I were in the mood to see it again so I just bought it on Amazon to stream. Meryl Streep's character, Jane, is such a likeable person that even when she misbehaves, you still like her. Alec Baldwin's Jake, is more complicated. It would be easy to dispise him for immorality, but it's obvious he's got issues. I can't say more without giving away the plot. It's nice to see Steve Martin play a straight role so well, though, of course, he still has his comedic moments. John Krasinski is a gem! My favorite scenes are those he's in. I'd watch the movie again just for him, even though he's only a supporting character. Oh, and watch out for Pedro!

This is one of my favorite movies. I love Meryl's character
This is one of my favorite movies. I love Meryl's character, her life, her business and her relationship with family and friends. The way she and her exhusbands relationship briefly rekindled reminds me of an experience I had with my exhusband; only we didn't carry it as far as Jane and Jake Adler did in the movie. This movie is funny and sad at the same time. I have watched this movie at least 10 times since I received it. I also love the music of the opening scene of the movie. This movie just reminds me of my life so much. That is probably why I enjoy watching it so much. Also the bakery scene is so very enticing, everything in her shop looks so delicious - I know it is only a movie scene but it still gets a reaction out of me every time I see those over-sugared donuts Jane sends back to the kitchen. I have been a Meryl Streep fan for a very long time, but this is my favorite Meryl Streep movie by far.

Entertaining, fun watch
This is a great go-to movie when you need a pick-me-up. I've watched it multiple times, and finally decided to buy it with my No Rush Rewards funds.

Touching and hilarious
I caught the end of this movie on tv recently, so it was great to see the entire movie when it arrived. I thought Meryl, Alec (who I usually don't care for), and Steve Martin were terrific together. I loved the family togetherness and thought the son-in-law was a hoot! At my age, I appreciated "cute" humor and the lack of swearing and enjoyed the interations of the family members. We laughed out loud at the comments or actions in the movie for the first time in awhile. I guess I'll categorize this movie as one of my "middle age" favorites.... along with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton in "Something's Gotta Give".

Beautiful Romance with a good dose of humour
Meryl Streep at her finest, playing a successful business woman with her own bakery and her children now growing up, leaving to get wed, leaving and graduating from university. Her husband has long since left her, but then comes back into her life, just as she is remodelling her house and creating a life of her own. New love could be on the horizon, but things all get rather complicated. There is plenty of good humour to be found in this feel-good film.

A great movie - very funny
I loved this. Lovely people in the film. Good story, beautifully acted, nice scenery. Only slight issue is the American dialogue - not always easy to pick up on some of the fast quips and nuances but as repeated viewings are a pleasure you can pick up more hidden meanings with subsequent viewings. Meryl Streep is great but the son in law (in the movie) has the character to a T. If you want a good relaxing laugh have a shot at this DVD. Well worth it. You need the sound turned up high as the voices are quite quiet or maybe that is just my television. Astonishing - if you read all the credits - how many people are involved in actually making a film that only lasts less than two hours. I thought it was one of the best films I have seen in a long time and I thoroughly recommend it. I would have given 10 stars if that were an option!

Streep strikes again!
When this film first came out, I thought it was just going to be one of those "run-of-the-mill chick flicks". How wrong could I be?!I first saw the film on a plane and thoroughly enjoyed it, but the sound wasn't good so I bought my own copy.Even second viewing was laugh out loud funny. Meryl Streep is so good in this part and the relationship/chemistry she has with Alec Baldwin isbrilliant. Plus the supporting actors are really good too, especially the guy playing the son-in-law.I thoroughly recommend this film as it's the sort I film I don't think I'll tire of seeing time after time. I passed my copy to my daughter towatch and she thought it was brilliant too, so it appeals to all ages.Meryl Streep is such a good actress (not to mention singer in Mamma Mia) covering anything from comedy to serious acting - she just gets better.I don't think I've ever seen her in a bad film.

A fun movie
I bought this DVD for my Mum. I live in California & I saw it at the movie theater with a friend. I was a little apprehensive because I remembered how disappointed I was with the conclusion of Something's Gotta Give. I so wanted Diane Keaton to choose Keanu Reeves over Jack Nicholson & I knew who I wanted Meryl to choose. I wasn't disappointed. It's not a movie to be taken seriously, I enjoyed it because it was fun & I laughed out loud quite a few times. Obviously not for everyone, but a welcome change to some of the movies out there that scream blood, lust & gore.

ONE OF THE BEST
I watched this quite some time ago - rental copy - and enjoyed it so much I wanted to have a copy to keep. It is so well scripted and the main actors are perfect in their roles. Meryl Streep is one of the finest and most versatile actresses around and Steve Martin is just so good at what he does. The scene that will always stick in my mind is Alec Baldwin and the laptop. If you've seen in you'll know what I mean if not it's hilarious. Final line is watch it - it will cheer you up.
