does what is intended
it was easy to hook up and easy to set the combo code, but is easily removed/stolen if anyone has a simple tool to remove. i guess its good for "show" and quick steps away

Perfect for college life
Bought it for my son to use at college. He hooked it up and it was a real lifesaver. It was so strong, maybe a little too strong because we were scared to take it off at the end of the year just now to take it home, but it was ok and came off in 30 seconds. Would recommend this to others, especially those in the college life.

Excellent quality
I considered buying this combination lock originally but was hesitant due to how many much cheaper combination laptop locks there are on the market. I ended up buying a $15 lock, which was immediately regretted upon receiving the item in the mail. You get what you pay for; the $15 lock was made of very low-quality metal, the combination part actually jammed beyond repair when I accidentally dropped it fresh from the packet. I went back and ordered this considerably more expensive item. I could not be happier with it. The combination device is easy to use, and comes with clear instructions. The device looks very sleek and professional. It fits my 13" macbook pro perfectly. Don't waste your time with cheap imitations, this is the item you want to secure your macbook pro with.

Potentially helpful to physically secure MacBook Pro BUT WHEN CHANGING THE SECURITY COMBINATION USE A DEEP/LONG SHARP TOOL!
An important component of a system to physically secure a MacBook Pro...BUT I recommend you read my note below on changing the combination number! Ok - so I have to have a system to physically secure a MacBook Pro (this more to do with institutional requirements than much evidence that it will prevent data or system theft ). This cable looks a good start if combined with the Edge system also sold by MacLocks (I am still waiting for the Edge to arrive so this is provisional - will update). The MacBook Pro has all its output ports in the Thunderbolt configuration which are not friendly to regular laptop cable locks so you have to buy this (could not find any equivalent). It looks a good component. BUT on the instruction sheet telling you how to change the combination number of the lock it says "Use a pointed tool to press in the button under the dials" Two points - (1) (minor) the button is on the end of the lozenge containing the dial or on the right side as you examine it with the brandname Compulocks facing you [ silly but there are four securing bolts which are not buttons (2) MAJOR (in my view) the pointed tool you use should be a deep/long pointed tool, up to 1 cm deep ) - I used a shallow pointed tool (from a pen knife) and as it did not depress the internal mechanism enough it caused the reset system to jam - so whole lock useless and so back to AMAZON with waste of everybody's time and money. I suggest strongly that you (and the manufacturer in a revision of the printed instructions) emphasize how deep the point has to be in - it is not in anyway obvious. Be warned! Will update my review when I get the Edge to see how they work together. PS If you thought that you might buy the lock or edge from Maclocks via their own website (due to supply difficulties on Amazon) I would be cautious - it was a disaster for me using Chrome with cookie security on with endless freeze ups . Moral : Amazon does indeed know something about website and security construction, MacLocks needs to do some website user testing!Addendum. Have now obtained and fitted the Ledge (Compulocks Macbook Pro Ledge ) (I had thought it was an Edge). Anyway attaches easily uses proprietary screws (so presumably less easy to unscrew) and does not look odd (brushed aluminum slight jut out). Does allow the cable lock to attach to the MacBook Pro and so allow some increased physical security. No I have not tested it with a serious metal cable cutter but it looks a lot better than nothing and somewhere approaching a serious bicycle lock cable. So I think the Ledge scores five stars, the cable about 4 stars (dropped one for changing lock code as above). Any minor improvement in security seems worthwhile. Good luck!

Fits well and does what it should
I read a lot of the reviews here before purchasing this. It was a bit more than I had wanted to pay, but I hate spending money on things only to have them fall apart. This is a simple yet sturdy device. It fits my MacBookPro perfectly. I like that it uses a combination because I hate trying to keep up with keys, and I really like that you can set (and reset) the combination whenever you like. The cable is nice and long and simple to use. I like that it comes with a zipper pouch to keep it in, too. Highly recommended!

Trop épais
Le câble est un peu trop épais à mon goût par rapport aux autres câbles de verrouillage que j'ai - je l'ai retourné.
