The Coorie Home: Beautiful Scottish Living

A great addition to my coffee table!!
The Coorie Home is an absolute delight! From reading all about contemporary Scottish communities to understanding the cultural and historical influences behind our own home's interior design - I just can't begin to imagine how many hours of research went into creating this wee masterpiece! Beth is an extremely talented writer and Ciara's beautiful photography really brings the book to life. It's brilliant. As a foodie, my favourite section is 'You'll Have Had Your Tea' which beautifully portrays Scottish hospitality and even features a couple of recipes - the carrot cake porridge and spiced bramble gin cocktail ones have really got me through this nippy December. Come summer I'll be foraging for elderflower and trying out Beth's cordial recipe, too. This is a great addition to my coffee table!!

A Really Lovely Book
Beth and Ciara have created a wonderfully diverse celebration of Scotland and all things "coorie". I bought it as a coffee table book to flick through every now and again but I couldn't put it down! All walks of life are featured in the book, from sheltered accommodation in Edinburgh to countryside estates in the Highlands. Fascinating interviews, detailed tutorials and quirky top tips are abundant. Beth and Ciara weave a lovely narrative that made me (a Scot abroad) truly homesick and inspired to bring more "coorie" into my life.

Coorie up with this book!
Beautifully put together, The Coorie Home makes for an interesting and enjoyable read. The quality of the photography and writing is very high. Couldn’t recommend more for a nostalgic look in to why Coorie exists today in Scotland.

Not as described
I bought this as a gift and was very disappointed. I thought it would be more rustic with beautiful ideas. Really a ‘coffee table book’ that nobody really looks at

Started well but turned preachy half way through
Oh, the unbearable wokeness of being a Scottish middle class fluff writer...!The start was good - some decent overlook of historical architecture, lovely pictures, etc.Alas, the wokeness starts to inevitably come through as you progress through the book. Scotland's place in the British empire is referred to as 'troubled' without any elaboration or further explanation. Then a reader is made to feel guilty for this past. The incessant references to climate change get more frequent as you approach the last chapter, where claims are made that Scotland is likely to experience crop failure in the future. Again, with no proof or references to scientific literature. It's just asserted as a supposed fact and left at that.Uh! This could have been a lovely little book if the author could have stayed away from subjects she has no knowledge of.Advice for the author: stick to architecture and textiles, leave history and politics for a more serious academic book.
